A family member recently gave me their Kenmore Vacuum Cleaner (model 35821) and I did not notice that the power cord was missing at first. I tried to look closely at the manual online to see if this was something I would be able to purchase or if the vacuum was no longer any good. Do you happen to know if there is a replacement part for the actual power cord for this item?

It sounds like there's a problem between the power cord and the vacuum cleaner itself. Remove the power cord check the connection at the vacuum cleaner and see if something came unconnected
Contact any vacuum ckleaner repair shop in your area and they can supply a replacement cord. Check the local phone book under vacuum cleaner parts retailers.
Turn on the vacuum but don't move it--just start at the plug end of the cord, bend and pull gently on the cord, but hold the plug in the socket. Work along the cord while listening to the motor for cutoff. When you get to the internal break in the cord, any bending or pulling will immediately start and stop the motor. If this occurs near either end of the cord, it can be cut off shorter and a replacement plug put on (if on that end). If it is the vacuum end, the machine needs to be disassembled part way to reattach the cord. If the break is near the center of the cord, just replace the entire cord. Good luck!
Kenmore Model 116, behind the Vacuum cleaner there is a Motor Reset switch which you need to press. 1. Make sure the Vacuum Cleaner is unplugged. 2. Press the reset button gently in with a pen. 3. Plug back the Vacuum cleaner and it should work.
I would suggest checking the hoses for clogs. Especially the hose right after the carpet brushes. Don't forget to clean off your brush. Hope this helps.
