When I first got the Curtes Mathes console, three days ago, it worked fine. We watched it from about 1400 to 2300.
The next morning, we turned on the television and the screen went blank within five minutes. The speakers had a light worble sound. Pressing the power button did nothing. Unplugging it, the plugging it in again, restored the ability to turn on the television. This time it went blank in a shorter amount of time.
If there is a program showing, the screen goes blank faster than if it is only snow. (I did a little troubleshooting.) I removed the back cover and watched after turning on the television: no sparks or smoke or anything visible.
No connections appear to be loose. The soldering on the NEC card looks intact. The tube is a Zenith.
Any suggestions? Other than throwing away the television. We got it for free, so any repair would be worth it.

Your problem is from the power regulator IC . Its an str type and has to be an original from tosiba or its parts distributors. Now you may have caused more problems as alot of peeps do trying the set over and over again thinking Oh the set will rest its self.. Nope sorry sir if a set goes bad and you try it once , and it dosent come back on . Its time to seek a repair person to repair and troubleshoot the set for you UNless your a technician? If your not Dont try to repair a tv as these have non serviceable parts for the consumer to replace! And can bite ya in the butt, if your not carefull. We techs cannot teach ya overnight how to fix something. Only assit and to point ya in the right direction. Good Luck

It definitely does not seem to be a problem with the Picture Tube. More like a cold solder. It is definitley not a job for a layman. Also, get a good technician to have a look, as locating cold solders is a labourous and time consuming process. It could also be possible that the main DC filter capacitor is getting dry, and may require replacement.
