This is a tube television set, so yes, you will need a digital converter if you are using rabbit ears.

You need to get a Digital-to-Analog Converter Box with this TV.

This TV has not built in digital broadcasting tuner.

See here about the converter.

Hi,

Yes you will need it.A DTV converter box is an easy-to-install electronic device that hooks up to your analog television set and over-the-air antenna. The box converts the digital television signal into an analog format, making it viewable on your analog TV set.

Any TV manufactured before 2002 might need the converter box to get the digital channels.
What is the model number of your TV?

Check this website for more info about the analog to digital transition.

  • Jaime Hernandez Dec 13, 2008

If you are receiving OTA channels, you will need to have the converter box but if you have a cable TV converter or satellite receiver then you do not need the converter as the channels will come to the cable or satellite receiver and from there to your TV.

Does the Zenith A27B33W need a digital converter to get broadcast television? (not cable TV)

Turn on your Zenith TV and try selecting channels. If you see channels such as 10.1, 52.2, etc. displayed, they are digital. If you do not see digital channels displayed, you will need to purchase and install an A/D converter (set top box).

What is a converter box for tv

2_21_2013_6_27_22_pm.jpg
A digital television adapter (DTA), or digital-to-analog converter [set-top box], or commonly known as a converter box, it is a television tuner that receives a digital television (DTV) transmission, and converts the digital signal into an analog signal that can be received and displayed on an analog television set. It may refer to over-the-air broadcast television signals received by an television antenna, or to cable TV systems which switched to digital cable. It normally does not refer to satellite TV, which has always required a set-top box either to operate the big satellite dish, or to be the integrated receiver/decoder (IRD) in the case of direct-broadcast satellites (DBS).

In North America, these ATSC tuner boxes convert from ATSC to NTSC, while in most of Europe and other places such as Australia, they convert from Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) to PAL. Because the DTV transition did nothing to reduce the number of broadcast television system standards (and in fact further balkanized it), and due to varying frequency allocations and bandplans, there are many other combinations specific to other countries.

Do I need a digital converter box to recieve a digital broadcast with a Sharp LC-20SH4U TV?

Yes you need a digital converter box. Your model has an NTSC Analog Tuner. It doesn't have a Digital Tuner. This is why you need the converter box.

For example, many companies like Comcast or Time Warner or TCI etc used to broadcast Analog Signals through their wires. Now they have broadcasted only Digital Signals. This makes either your TV Obsolete as a Tuner or you have to get a digital converter so your Analog TV can receive the signal.

Depending on your service, it may be worth your while to get a TV with a digital Tuner.

Then again, it also depends on if you are connecting a box receiver to your TV. For example, if you have Directv or Dish, you would then use your standard Video/Audio or Composite Cables to transmit your signal OR your Out to TV Coaxial whichever works for your receiver. Some receivers have already built in converters . You should really consider all the factors to decide and determine it based on the type of service you have or want.

Are my Orion tv's purchased in 2002 digital ready

Your TV does not have a digital tuner. You'll need a converter box for digital broadcast reception. Remember that if you're on a cable system or using a satellite receiver, your TV doesn't need to have digital tuning. It's only if you want to watch off-the-air broadcasts that you'll need the converter.

Hitachi 57G500A DTV & upcoming analog to digital changeover

To answer your direct question, yes it has a digital tuner. To answer your real question, NO it WILL NOT receive the new ATSC (digital) broadcast stations. The tuner itself is a digital one but works only for analog signals. The changeover in February will change the broadcast signals to a new digital format that will require a converter for your set to continue to function. Please note that the converter is only required if you receive your signal from rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna. If connected to cable or satelite, no change will be seen and no converter is needed.

To simplify:

Over air reception = need converter
Cable or satelite = no converter

Digital Converter Box

Hi William

You TV is able to receive Free to air Terrestrial Analog broadcasts by just connecting the antenna. However if you wish to receive Digital Terrestrial broadcasts (DVB), you need to obtain a digital receiver for Terrestrial Digital Broadcasts. It can be easily connected to your TV.

Digital TV??

Your set does not have the correct tuner in it. However, the broadcast change only effects those that use an external antenna for reception. If you are using cable, satelite or any other service for TV, you do not need the converter.
