Yes you need a digital converter box. Your model has an NTSC Analog Tuner. It doesn't have a Digital Tuner. This is why you need the converter box.

For example, many companies like Comcast or Time Warner or TCI etc used to broadcast Analog Signals through their wires. Now they have broadcasted only Digital Signals. This makes either your TV Obsolete as a Tuner or you have to get a digital converter so your Analog TV can receive the signal.

Depending on your service, it may be worth your while to get a TV with a digital Tuner.

Then again, it also depends on if you are connecting a box receiver to your TV. For example, if you have Directv or Dish, you would then use your standard Video/Audio or Composite Cables to transmit your signal OR your Out to TV Coaxial whichever works for your receiver. Some receivers have already built in converters . You should really consider all the factors to decide and determine it based on the type of service you have or want.

I have a sharp LC-37G4U and can not get it to load over air channels. this a digital tv but the only way they would load is with a converter. how can I download over the air channels on the tv

Unfortunately, the Sharp Aquos LC-37G4U TV is an HDTV-ready monitor. It does not have an ATSC (digital OTA) tuner. The A/V Center box (TU-GA1U-S) that came with the TV has two NTSC tuners. You'll need the over-the-air ATSC to NTSC (analog) converter box or a stand-alone ATSC tuner DVR set-top box to get most OTA channels. There are only low power NTSC tuners that continue to broadcast; you will only receive those stations if you are close to their transmitters.

Crutchfield has a nice list of the specifications for the TV here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-4LS7pNsldXK/p_70037G4U/Sharp-LC-37G4U.html . The manual has the full specifications for the TV on page 100. Crutchfield has the manual here: http://pdf.crutchfieldonline.com/ImageBank/v20040615154800/Manuals/700/70032G4U.PDF .

I have an older Sharp Aquos TV - model # LC-32G4U. I am trying to connect a digital antenna but it doesn't work. Anyone know if I need a separate digital tuner for this TV? Or what else might be t

There is no difference between a "digital" and analog antenna. Either antenna will capture the signal. What you need is a digital converter box to convert the over air digital signal to the older analog type signal your TV needs. You connect the antenna to the digital converter box, and the digital converter box to the TV.
Several years ago, the US government forced peopel to buy digital converter boxes or newer TVs that could pick up the digital signal. Either get a digital converter box or a new TV.

How do I record a tv program with a Sharp A400 VCR? Videos will play on the tv, but I was not able to get it to record. Thanks.

Your VCR is no longer capable of recording "off air" tv signals. All tv stations are now broadcasting in digital format, your VCR is analog only. You can however get a digital converter box that will receive "off air" digital signals and convert them for recording on your VCR. CLICKING HERE will give you all the information you need to hook up the converter box... Good Luck!

Does my LC-13S2U have a digital tuner?

Going over you manual for the tv, it doesn't have a digital tuner.
You'll need a digital converter box for broadcast channels.
Indoor antenna will work. But, an outdoor antenna will work best for reception.
If you need a copy of your manual, you can download one with this link:

It looks like your TV is not HDTV capable, so you will need a box when the conversion takes place next year unless you have cable box or satellite TV receiver.

Analog to digital conversion on Aquos?

First of all, the change is actually goping from analog over-air broadcasting to a digital signal. Second, if you have cable or satelite, you don't need anything. The only time a converter is required is if you use rabbit ears or an external antenna. In your case, the TV DOES have a digital tuner so you DO NOT need a converter in either case.
