Worked fine when I bought it in Nov last year. Now I get a "hardware failure" signal (_...) What is the most likely hardware failure? Besides the ASUS motherboard, other components used in the new build, Nov. 2011, include: Intel i7-2700K CPU, Seagate ST33000651AS 3TB hard drive, Ultra X3 ULT40311 1000w power supply, ATI FireGL V8650 2GB graphics card, & Corsair XMS3 RAM x4
Could be a bad lead or connection the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty even something as small as an electrical extension or a faulty fan lead can cause you problems computer needs all of the data and power to travel through every working device and to have an end for a computer to be able work properly a motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive check all electrical extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd drives need to have current go through make sure these devices are working check the CPU make sure it has thermal paste and dust free secure seating also check your computer ram modules and cmos battery make sure they are dust free and securely seated some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in
test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions SATA
hope it helps

have you tried different memory as no matter what the board says they don't like some memory .
also take the board out of the case and connect pwr supply.
cpu and fan ,video card , and 1 memory stick
no cables ,keyboard ,mouse or drives connected.
this is called bread boarding.
reset the bios jumper, then put jumper back.
and power up.

Hi bart, please re-check you're memory. See page 1-17 in you're user manual. (Read everything)!
You're Asus board can not use 184-pin DDR DIMM's.
Also check the QVL list for supported memory page's 1-18 & 1-19.
I did not see Corsair on either page.
You're board can only use 240-pin DDR2 memory. Please read the "Notes" at the top of page 1-18.
If everything (Regarding memory) is within the Asus specifications than clear the cmos/bios & re-boot again. If you're system still does not boot than remove one DIMM & try again.
Asus warrants their boards for three years. Call Asus tech at
1-812-282-2787 EST, IL 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The call is on you but the service is free. It's worth every dime.
Good Luck & Kind Regards.
Would you be kind enough to let me know what Asus suggested? (If it comes to that).
Mike

Hi,
There is a couple of things you can do to troubleshoot this.
If there is an on-board VGA (video) port on the back, try that.
Clear the CMOS. On that spec board there should be a coloured plastic jumper next to or near the motherboard battery like this >>>>>
If there is no jumper then remove the power cord from the back and take the motherboard battery out for half an hour then replace and see if you get a post screen.
If it still suffers from the same symptoms then there could be micro fissures between solder points on the motherboard as Intel's tend to run fairly hot.
This means you have to re-float the motherboard and is a last resort repair.
If you need anymore help or advice please post back.
Good luck.
Testimonial: "thanks for trying to help m8, but ive pretty much tried everything that doesnt require returning the board for repair, so looks like its a new mobo."

The Asus bios won't show SATA devices.
However if you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (or newer operating system then the devices should be detected. If this is not happening then enter the bios -- Storage Configuration -- Configuration Enhanced and set the IDE devices to compatible. This allows all drives to be "seen" and you should then be able to load an OS.
