For the last 2 weeks our PVR has worked fine only about half the time. It will suddenly cut out: picture and sound disappear and the pushing the MENU button the produces zip: no signal strength screen or anything. When it is working our signal strength is 89. Is the PVR unit faulty? Where to find out if it can be repaired? It is about 5 years old and is a model 9200 used with a Bell dish.

Sounds faulty to me (especially if it has been working fine for the last few years), i'd get it replaced, some of the new TiVo boxes are insanely good, and well worth checking out despite their also insane prices.

Thanks,

Lcd32880hdf 10 months old. When switched on the picture disappears after 2/3 seconds and will not come back on. Sound still remains un-effected.??

If you can quickly get to menu before picture goes blank, then go picture / backlight / set backlight to minimum and it will work fine.

My HyVision LCD TV Picture disappears after a few seconds

It seems that the "backlight" has gone bad. "Backlight" is the device that allows to see the picture in an LCD TV, when they are about to go bad the symptom that you describe is very usual. It depends on the tv manufacturers and model to expect how long the "backlight" is going to last in a tv.You can shop around for a replacement part and try to do it yourself or take it to an especialized technician. Good luck..

Trouble with samsung bp-3600

Its probably the update. Samsung has had a history of pushing updates then having to send a new one to fix the last one. Sites like AVS forums are full of good info. If there's alot of people having the same issue it helps you identify the culprit. In these situations there's only 2 possible culprits the update or the player itself. If its still under warranty take it back and confirm its the update. Or, wait for the fix.

Close caption works when I select the input for tv, select hdmi input and the close caption option disappears from the menu. I have a shaw cable pvr hd box and need the close caption to work on all...

You need to turn on closed captions through the menu of your PVR. To have it on all the time, turn the box off, press menu on the front of the box, and scroll down to captions.
This should fix the problem

No sound

Hi, Probably you first have to determine if the "no sound" is the TV or your source (cable box). Try another source such as a DVD player hooked to the audio/video inputs of the TV, if still no sound then you have confirmed that it is the TV, if there is sound, then it is the cable box (in some cases it may be just the cables connecting the cable box and the TV; try wiggling it a bit, might just be loose). If it is the TV, go through the routine of the setup/menu; look for audio, stereo, SAP, etc, try different settings (pls log down original setting in case no change and you have to revert back). If all else fails, try the "thump test" this will help you determine if its a loose/cold solder problem inside the TV. Give your TV a good whack at the side, top or back, if sounds comes on even briefly, it's a loose/cold solder problem, if not then you probably have to have the unit serviced by a qualified professional. Good luck and kind regards.
