Screen is off and black. when typing F7 the screen displays normally bit for less than one second. If plugin an external display, red and green channel are lost, everything is blue
If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

The fault could be a faulty CCFL lamp or inverter.
To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

If your Dell has a S-video output it could connect to a TV or a video device, which allows for a TV option.

i have solve the problem for my hp nx7300. mine used to show everything that should be shown on the screen but had the screen placed in a Conner so small. i solved this by uninstalling the monitor and unknown device drivers. i have then installed the unknown device as a blue-tooth adapter to avoid this problem recurring. hope this sorts out some people's problem. the other half screen with half completely not shown has to do with the cable connecting the monitor and the CPU. remember solving this for my friend by cleaning the connection port.

SOURCE: my laptop keyboard not working
Hello,
This is because you have Num Lk activated.
To deactivate, hold down the Fn key and press NumLk (it's the same key as insert)
Now you will have the normal characters when typing.

i don't think this is a CCFL lamp. Indeed, when connecting external screen, i see the image but only in blue. Green and red channel have completely disappeared. On the laptop itself, the strange thing is i can perfectly see the screen during 0.5 seconds when typing F7 which is standard key to switch on/off the screen, but after those 0.5 seconds it is going black again. So i think this is not a wire problem, but more the video card Nvidia GeForce itself. Is there any video card diagnostic tools ?
Finally I discovered that the blue channel only on external display was due to a defective cable connexion. Once fixed, the external display was ok. SO i think solution given by Chris Hingee is the right one !
