HI unfortunatly they are dark black blotches that no light travels through, they are leakages in the nematic liquid...... you can gently try & massage them away if there still apparent after that then im affrraid Sadly your display is TOAST.

How do you get rid of the gray and black bars that fill up the remaining screen on the 42 inch LCD HDTV

hi what you need to do is change the viewing screen to wide screen or auto if you enter the setup menu using the telly control you should then find a menu for the screen so either select 16/9 widescreen or put it on auto this should then solve your problem

THE PICTURE HAS A WIDE VERTICAL BLACK "FOG IN" THE MIDDLE. I HAVE DISCONNECTED AND RECONNECTED ALL LEADS AND POWERED THE TELLY DOWN, BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK

I can only assume from the detail that you have a bad lback light and probably should have that replaced. The tv uses a bank of florescent lights for the lighting to see the picture.

Black toner spots appear on print outs

You have something stuck on your drum. See page 125 of your manual to clean it--it's just isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip, but don't scrub. This happens (too) often to some people I know.

hi my name is mark, the spot probably is a hot spot. something is absorbing some of the microwave energy.or something that food was cooked on in oven got hot enough to cause spot. you can check taking a glass or bowl of water setting it off to the side of the spot, and after it times out, carefully feel spot to see if it heated up. thanks for your question.

Missus driving me mad!! please help

this sympton is cause by a breakdown in the video amplifier, ABL (automatic brightness limiting) circuit, crt circuit or in the horizontal circuit and high voltage circuits. according to your experience, it seems that a certain component is already deteriorating, when it becomes hot it looses its function. probably ic, transistor, resistor or capacitor in the above circuits. but im sure its not the tube which is the most expensive of all the parts.
