Hi i have a goodmans 28" tv model: w282ns-t, approx 5yr old.
you can turn the tv on and after about 10mins the screen goes blank but the sound remains, you turn the telly off for 10 mins & the picture comes back & then repeats the above problem, i noticed the tube is manufactured by thompson.
Is the telly economically repairable or is a new telly on the cards?
Any information would be greatly appreciated>

Re: Missus driving me mad!! please help
This sympton is cause by a breakdown in the video amplifier, ABL (automatic brightness limiting) circuit, crt circuit or in the horizontal circuit and high voltage circuits. according to your experience, it seems that a certain component is already deteriorating, when it becomes hot it looses its function. probably ic, transistor, resistor or capacitor in the above circuits. but im sure its not the tube which is the most expensive of all the parts.

in your remote control there will be one button calles ASM or auto search mode you press it (or auto) tv will tune one by one channel automatically & it will stop.
now from prog. button you can up &down channals.
from vol +&- vol up& down.
What you are discribing sounds like dry solder joints in the media box.
Because of the delicate circuitry in the box I would recomend you have media box looked at by a shop.
Your best bet is a small independent retailer rather than the big boys currys etc.
I have personally dealt with a company that repairs the boxes who advertise on Ebay UK.
They do A repair or exchange service for approx £90.00 all fully waranteed.
They fixed A techwood media box that was driving me crazy & since being repaired has caused no problems.
