My Ps2 doesn't read any of the discs I insert. I inserted CDs (burned and store bought), DVDs (burned and store bought), Games, I even tried to insert a lens cleaner, but it wouldn't even read that. Help Please!

First you need to define what it IS and IS NOT reading. You'll need to run some tests.

Test 1: use a regular music CD (NON BURNED) (RETAIL) disk and put that into your ps2 and see if it starts playing it.

Test 2: insert a regular DVD (NON BURNED) (RETAIL) disk and try to play that.

If neither will play then it is one of two things. Your laser lens is out of alignment, or your laser lens is damaged.

If one plays but not the other, it is the potentiometer pots on the back of the PS2 lens that need adjusting. You can read more about that on one of my other posts ::.HERE.::

The main reason behind the tests is to further describe your problem. Just saying that the PS2 doesn't read any disks is too vague. A laser lens has many many functions to it. They are all based on conditions. There are two voltage regulators that control the power of the laser for two modes CD's and DVD's. There are also many many reported cases of where one will work but the other will not. In order for anyone to help you, you need to tell us if it's reading only cd's, only dvd's, or neither. The test results tell tech's many things. If it's reading cd's but not dvd's or vice versa this tells techs that the voltage on the lens is out of alignment. If it reads nothing at all (burned media or non burned media, DVD movies, music CD) This would tell us that either the lens is out of alignment or possably damaged.

SOURCE: ps2 not reading disc.

Hi,

Theres a high chance that your laser simply broke. You should let someone with solder experience let replace the PS2 laser.
You can buy the laser on websites like this one: http://www.consoleparts4u.co.uk

PS2 has a special laser that reads DVD or CD media differently. It can be "bad" in a way that some work and others don't. Cost of laser replacement is too high, buy a cheap core unit and game on.

Not recognizing disk

My PS2 always does that now. Just make sure it's reading the disc in the System Browser, and it'll play fine.

Ok, I was having the same problem. You need to take your playstation apart and clean the laser with some alcohol. Only use alcohol as it dries faster and clear. Might as well clean the rest of the inside as well. you will be surprised at the dust it collects. After I done this my works fine.
