When i was driving I noticed a hissing noice and a strange moist smell. I then see mist coming from the hood toward the windshield. My truck began to overheat so I pulled over. I noticed the misting was getting worse and orange liquid was squirting everywhere underneath the vehicle. The mist was coming from behind the engine near or behind the firewall. I ran the heat to see if the car would cool down. It helped for a few seconds then the air got cool. By the way I live in las vegas so it was pretty warm that day. Also, there is no liquid on the passenger floor. I am going to replace my thermostat to see if that could be a cheap fix hoping it is not my heater core :( Please help!

You may have a hole in 1 of the heater hoses running from the motor to the heater core. Sometimes the holes can be very small and rather hard to find.

We have an Acura MDX touring suv, 2006. The driver side floor stays wet and we have also noticed a strange noice seems to be coming from the vents. Wondering if they are related?

Brian’s answer seems right. Unless you’re getting the problem during the rain. One way to test for the heater core is to leave the heat off and see if you get any water. Leaving the heater switch off turns off the valve which sends water to your heater core.

Replacing a heater core is expensive because they have to remove the entire dashboard. It’s probably at least $1000+ job.

Not sure about the noise.

sounds like you have a coolant leak from the heater core or a hose under the hood leaking you need help from a mechanic

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee has a dark mist/smoke coming out of the vents, and defroster. But, the heater works fine. What could it be?

DO NOT USE STOP LEAK!!!!!! That stuff has no brain so you cant tell it to plug only specific leaks. It will go for the easiest hole to plug which can be a water port in the cooling jacket for the cyl heads. replace the heater core. Fix it right or bypass but please please please do not use anything that will stop a leak

Leaking water. noticed a big spot on drive way. nothing fresh, but, was concerned. popped the hood and it was obviously leaking water on the front of the engine. like i said there was no fresh evidence. so,...

check for coolant dripping from the water pump onto the drive belt and being slung into mist. This is the 3.4 liter engine. let me know if you need instructions for changing the pump, and specify engine size if 3.4 is not it.

Look for cracked and gummy vacuum hoses. It's time to see if any are in this condition or disconnected entirely.

Check for bubbling in the reservoir tank. It is possible that there is a head gasket leak. Look for steam coming from the exhaust pipe? Steam coming out from reservoir cap vent!
