92 audi 100 quattro wagon, problem staying started?
Could be the fuel pump. If there is pressure in the fuel tank, such as on a hot day it is just enough to get the engine to sputter a few times but not keep running. Might also be the cam position sensor (left rear side of V-6 engine ). A scan reader tool would indicate that.

The serpentine belt routing diagram for a 1992 Audi 100 CS with 2.8 liters V6 engine
CS = Crankshaft
Gen = Alternator
G = Guide pulley
T = Tensioner pulley
AC = Air Conditioning
PAS = Power Assisted Steering
Serpentine belt doesn't seem to fit
Not quite sure how many idlers it should have, but does your car have A/C? Serpentine belts for any car that have the A/C option are sold in two different lengths, the A/C one being longer. If this is not the case, ask your NAPA parts person for the routing diagram for your vehicle. Having worked for them in the past, I know for a fact they have easy access to them. Sometimes with serpentine belts, even experienced mechanics get confused and can`t reroute it right without a diagram.

Check if the bottom of the door panels are wet. There is a plastic sheet under the door panel to keep water out. If its ripped or become unglued around the bottom it can cause water to come in. They need to be sealed perfectly to work.
