Samsung Spinpoint - Answered Questions & Fixed Issues
Hdd failure
It is not smart to switch a IDE with a SATA,
it should be IDE with IDE and SATA with SATA
Each transmit diffrent levels of instructions.
The clicking is definitely not a good thing. It means you nearly shorted something out to the point where its not sending the correct impulses in power. Most likely the hard drive might be able to work. but the clicking means its blocked or somethings preventing the head from moving or doing what its supposed to do. You will need a new Hard Drive.
My recommendation is to send your old HDD to have it recovered in a clean room if you want your data from it. or replace board with like board, being exact. other wise switch the board and have a high level format for the clicking. Its the only real way to fix a HDD, but its not worth it for the cost that you will be charged. Your better off buying a new HDD

Dear SIr:
I have Samsung S0802N
Sadly the “click of *****” indicates that the read/write arm actuator has failed and the drive is no longer useable. If the arm has contacted the platter then it is unlikely any data will be recoverable. If not, a specialist recovery firm can retrieve data but this will be very expensive as it has to be done in a vacuum. A new drive will cost far less - hope you backed up your data!

What memory card should I
Check all the sequential numbers on everything. The lowest serial or mfg date, anything that will give you a clue as to which is the oldest, therefore original.

Is my samsung fried ?
It could be the enclosure itself. I would try that first, especially if you have data you are trying to recover.
or it could be that it was running NTFS and it was improperly removed.
If you don't have anything you are trying to recover, you could just reformat it. JUST REMEMBER: Reformatting will erase any data on the drive.

Drive works on my Toshiba
New OS is 64 bit versus old one at 32. Might need a different driver for different OS since 32 bit drivers will often not work on a 64 bit system.

Hi! I have a Samsung Spinpoint SV6003H HDD that I
My experience has shown that there is a GREAT difference between different USB cables. I have had some which did not seem to transfer the power efficiently to the device. I've had others which would not make a connection to my computer at all.
I almost threw away a number of very expensive LiON batteries for my Sony camera because the USB cord I was using to charge the batteries in the camera was not working. Then I was surprised when a shorter USB cable from a cheap device worked just fine with my Sony camera, and I was able to charge all my batteries.
I have accumulated a number of different USB cords. And I try them all until I've run out of cords to try, or I find one that works.

Samsung SP2514N discs....
Seriously? When data recovery companies open up a hard drive, they do it in a clean room to protect the disks. The heads on the arms float so close to the disk surface that a speck of dust can get stuck and scratch the surface. If you bent the "reader tabs", that means you have already experienced multiple head crashes.
Also, the base of the arm is a powerful magnet, if the disk comes in contact with this, it will wipe the data.
Even if you do everything perfectly, just putting the disks into another drive will not work unless you get the same drive and sometimes, the firmware version even matters. Unless the drive is compatible, it will try to read data in the wrong locations.
