There are many reasons that make your iPhone running slow. Below are some main reasons:

  1. One of the main reasons for iPhone running slow is the lack of updates. If your iOS version is not the latest one, and the software you are using on your iPhone is outdated, it is likely that your iPhone will perform slowly.
  2. Maybe your storage space is clogged up by some bloatware, and too many junk files. Full memories and insufficient storage space can lead to lower iPhone performance.
  3. If there are too many background apps, your iPhone will slow down other activities to keep the normal running of apps in the background. Therefore, it is clever for you to close unnecessary apps to ensure the fast running of your iPhone.
  4. When the network connection of your iPhone is poor, your iPhone will also get slow performance. Maybe the Internet line has something wrong, or the Wi-Fi network is not stable enough for fast iPhone running performance.
  5. Under extreme weather conditions, iPhone running slow issue can also occur. When the weather is too cold or too hot, your iPhone hardware can meet with challenges.
  6. Deteriorating iPhone battery and simple aging processes can slow down your iPhone performance as well.
  7. Poor and unreasonable settings of your iPhone, like motion and brightness displays, is also a common reason for slow running iPhone.
  8. Malware is also likely to cause iPhone running slow issue, especially when you have a jailbreak on your iPhone. It is sensible for you to use firewall software to prevent malware all the time.

My iPhone 3G is running slow and some apps don't open or take a long time. I went into Vodafone today and they suggested that I should restore to it's original settings, however when doing this,...

it wont restore if you jailbroken it, first you need to do, go to setting-general-about-locate your version ex: 3.1.2 (7D11), download what version you have right now at this link: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750
ex: iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw after downloading, go to itunes, press and hold shift+restore, locate the version that you've downloaded.. enter.

My iphone 3g was upgrade to 4.2.1, but it too slow, i tried to downgrade back to 3.1.3, but i got problem,.., i got massage "the iphone could not be restored, an unknown error occured (1646) on...

Put it back to 4.2.1
It's not the iOS that's slow. It's how much stuff is on the phone.
The more apps, videos, songs, whatever. The slower the phones gonna run.

I have iOS 4.2.1 and mine runs fast, reliable, and does perfectly. But I also leave atleast 1gb free

3g iPhone switched to E even though i'm in my house and have full coverage so very very slow and useless! is there anything I can do or is it a chip problem?

The structure/location of your house may cause signal interference. One of my former workplaces had almost no signal throughout their building.
An easy solution would be to set up wireless internet at your home and switch your phone to wi-fi while you are home. This would actually be faster than 3g internet.

No 3gs icon on screen, slow connection

You are most likely in an area that has little to no 3G signal, hence your phone has reverted back to the more reliable (however slow) Edge data connection. Please refer to this guide for a reference. Blue refers to 3G network while orange refers to the Edge network. sellers737.jpg
