You can't downgrade to the last version of iOS system, because Apple closes the verification channel once the new system released. So if you want to improve the running speed of your iPhone, see: How to Fix iPhone Running Slow?

Put it back to 4.2.1
It's not the iOS that's slow. It's how much stuff is on the phone.
The more apps, videos, songs, whatever. The slower the phones gonna run.

I have iOS 4.2.1 and mine runs fast, reliable, and does perfectly. But I also leave atleast 1gb free

Upgrade to new softwear version 11.1

Hi Karin, to best of my knowledge you cannot update a 3G much beyond iOS 4.2.1 or so. I think even the 4G does not allow newest iOS 8.1.2 - the 4S does.
Even if you mean Mac OS the newest version is 10.10 - 11.1 may be in beta, but not anything that would effect your 3G.

Good luck!

Not sure what your question is, but if you're trying to downgrade your phone's baseband, you're out of luck. Once it's upgraded, that's that.
Sorry.

I would like to downgrade firmware on iPhone 3G from 4.0 to 3.1.1 Please help

There is no 3.1.1 firmware version available for the iPhone 3G. 3.1.1 is only for ipod touches. To downgrade to 3.1.2 (http://modmyi.com/forums/downloads/firmware/6/iphone-3g-3-1-2-32353/) or 3.1 (http://modmyi.com/forums/downloads/firmware/6/iphone-3g-3-1-32183/), download from either of the provided links, go into iTunes and to your iPhone tab, shift+click on restore for windows, or alt+click restore on mac, navigate to the downloaded file, and open it. Your phone will restore to the downloaded firmware.

I have 3g iphone, 4.1 firmware installed. How do I jailbrake the iphone. Thanks

you will have to downgrade the firmware as anything higher then 4.0.1 wont jailbreak at this time

goto the website http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
and download the selected firmware for the ipod touch model you have. if your unsure if the model / type you can goto http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/#
and type in the last 3 numbers of your serial number to find out

if you want to downgrade or upgrade, choose the firmware you want to downgrade to, then go to itunes and shift-click on restore and choose the firmware you want to change to. this will restore your ipod touch
