Just purchased and installed a new ViewSonic 22" VA2231wm widescreen monitor to go with an existing Dell OptiPlex GX620 desktop computer. While attempting to get better resolution, got 'Out of Range' message and had to unplug new monitor and go back to old CRT monitor. How can we make this combo work? Thanks for your help!

You need to set your PC to the native resolution of the monitor, if it is too high, you will get out off range message: native resolution is 1920x1080p @60Hz.

Dell Opitplex GX620 - "System

If you pull the side access cover off the computer tower, look inside and you will see a large circuit board, that is the Motherboard, on that board you will see a button sized silver battery, this is the battery backup for the "CMOS", and keeps the time and other memory functions alive. Carefully pry out the old battery and replace it with a new one, any Radio Shack or electroinics supply will have the battery. The battery number is on the battery. Make sure to install the battery exactly as it came out, it has a positive and negative side, write it down.

Intel 82845G Graphics doesn't support 1680x1050

You also have to install the monitor drivers.
And yes, the drivers directly from Intel will not work. Dell has a perpritory video, and you have to use the Dell Intel drivers.

I've installed a few of these, and I know they will work.
But I had to go with a 1280x1040 setting. It does work, and will fill the entire screen.

Another option is to put in a PCI video card (yes, a full size card will fit in the GX260's) One bonus to that is you can do multiple monitors. I've had best luck in the GX260's using video cards with an ATI chipset.
