How can I increase the printing speed for Zebra 160s?
Can the memory be upgrade or added to the printer?
Speed printing under dos-based application is perfect but no in window-based application.

If you are refering to print speed, from the label format, press F5 to bring up the LABEL & SETUP PROPERTIES. Click on LABEL OPTIONS and print speed will be the first choice.
If you are refering to how fast data is sent to the printer, then that depends on the connection to the PC and whether you are using true-type fonts or not.
Go to zebra.com and download the ZUD - (Zebra Universal Driver) - not the Zebra Designer Driver. Run the setup utility and install the driver for the 105SL and choose the port for your 160S. You may have to change the driver properties for firmware versions X.10 and earlier - I do not think that this feature is supported in the Designer Driver. The main point here is that if you can't find support for your specific model, install another model that supports the same features and print language. In your case, the 140XiIIIPlus has thermal transfer and runs on ZPL (Zebra Printer Language) just like your 160.
The 160S has a different main logic board, which the processor is different. I wonder if you could try and open up the cache. There is a ZPL command for that, which is COY. You can find this in the ZPL programming manual on the website. I can supply the link if you are still in need of a fix.
The LQ is probably Hooked up parallel to the LPT1 port.

Click OK and try to print again.

You can increase the size from here. Make sure the increase is in increments divisible by 128.
If you have multiple drives you can create additional page files on them. This will increase speed.
Whatever you do, don't select the 'No Paging File' option.
Spooling: Your computer is able to process data much faster than your printer can print it. Spooling is a process that allows the print process to finish at high speed with the output going to a temporary 'Print File' that feeds the printer at a speed it can handle. It's a way of quickly freeing up resources.
Do you know the print speed that you are using? I would slow it down to about 7 ips and adjust the Darkness until you are happy. Some companies want all this speed and the machine cannot do a good job at high speeds (10 ips). If you are not able to over-ride their speed, call them. It will increase your print quality a great deal.
The print speed is the second setting on the menu. Don't forget to save the settings when you are finished (use "Permanent"). Good luck!
A printer is designed to print at a certain ppm (page per minute), so really there is only one way to speed it up. When you select the print option from the File menu, you can select properties and see if you can change the dpi (dots per inch) of the document. Your document will print faster but you will lose quality.
You need the correct driver for the 105Se. The 300 dpi SL driver is not compatible.
Unfortunately, Zebra does not make it's older drivers available online. You will need to locacte someone with the correct driver for whichever version of Windows you are using.
