If the Blu-ray player is working properly and has no further wrong codecs or configurations, then it may be possible that your Blu-ray discs are not able to be read by the Blu-ray player.

It's something about the Burlesque dvd. I have the same problem with mine when I try and play it on my Sony blue-ray player. It's the only disc I have that it won't play. Disc is a DVD Video disc but it will no't play in the Sony player. It plays fine on other dvd players and my computer, but not on the Sony.

SOURCE: Incompatible Disc in Sharp BD-HP21X Blu-Ray Disc Player

I had the exact same problem as you did... I bought the Sharp Aquos 42D85X which came with Sharp BD-HP21X Blu-ray Disc player. could not get brand new blu-ray movies to play and i found it froze everytime after 10 secs. I phoned sharp who basically were no help watsoever! I then went and returned my blu-ray movies back to the store thinking it was a problem with the discs.. The people there were extremely nice and since they had a display model of the BD-HP21X instore they offered to test the movie on it to veroify whether it was the blu-ray player was the problem or not. Turns out its a fault with all of the BD-HP21X models. So we then ended up returning it back to the store we bought it and exchanged it with the older model (BD-HP20X). I now have no problems playing blu-ray movies. Although another suggestion is to perhaps download the lastest firmware update & see if that resolves your issues.

SOURCE: dvd player reads "no disc" after inserting dvd

try getting new av./audio cords and use them it should work then if it doesn't then you need to return it. there is a warranty on most dvd/blu-ray players.

SOURCE: Blu-Ray disc player model: BD-HP21H

You will need a 2GB usb device a.k.a. a flash drive. You will need access to the sharp web site. You can call 800-237-4277 any time between 9AM-7PM CST today or 7AM-7PM tomorrow to be walked through the software update you need from start to finish.

DVD player will play store bought dvd's but will say unknown disc when I insert one from Netflix.

Is it possible that this is a Blu-Ray disc from Netflix? If so, It may not be able to be read on a standard DVD player.
Another possible reason for this is that the disc is somehow damaged and thus unreadable.
I'm afraid without seeing the disc I am unable to help you further.
Either way, might be time to complain to Netflix:

Hi have just bought a panasonic blu ray player model dmp-bd77 here in australia we have put in a b/ray dvd from the usa that plays perfectly but when we have put in another american dvd(not blu ray a...

Every blu ray or dvd player sold in the world comes as standard unlocked to play any disc from any region. On the fifth play of a disc the DVD or Bluray will become locked to that region. So if you play 5 USA dvd's on the player after the fifth disc has been played only US dvd's will be recognised by the player, Same applies to BLUrays. So if i were you i would be careful about what discs you are putting in the player. Otherwise you will be left with a bluray player that cannot be used in Australia. After that happens the only way to play other region discs would be to get the player unlocked. Another point to add , a blueray player has two lasers one to play bluray and another to play DVD's. Lasers can fail so you could be able to play DVD's but not Bluray or vice versa depending on which laser has failed.

did you mean your DVD disc can not play in some dvd players,if so then my answer to your querry would be that some dvd players have more powerful lens to read bulky data in a disc that some machines can not read. also note that some machines are very sensitive such that they do not play discs with viruses, with scratches or any other defects. this is to safeguard the lens from being damaged due to the same though some machines will play barely all discs no matter the scratches.

Is the philips dvd player dvp3982 ale to play blu=ray disks?

DVD players cannot play Blu-Ray discs. Most Blu-Ray players have DVD support, which means they can play DVDs as well as Blu-Ray. Unfortunately, the DVP3982 is not a DVD player, not a Blu-ray player, therefore it cannot support this format.

Magnavox NB500MG9 BluRay Player

A Blu-ray player can play DVD or CD and still not play Blu-ray. It may play Blu-ray but not CD or DVD, or burned discs. This is all caused by the 'optical' a part that reads the disc in the machine. Your player will need service as a Blu-ray optic cannot just be 'dropped' into a player.
