Vhs to dvd burning
You cannot burn a DVD on the XBV243. It is NOT a DVD recorder. You CAN record onto a VHS tape from a DVD (copy-protected commercial DVDs cannot be recorded)

DVD door will not open to eject DVD
There could be 2 reasons, 1. Hardware issue 2. Software drivers:
Fixing 1: Hardware
Make sure the DVD is fixed properly in your tower ( I am not sure whether you are using a tower or lappi)
The direct solution is to put a pin i the small hole present on your DVD player. That should open the DVD door.
To fix the software part.
>> Try to update the drivers depending on the operating system you are using.
>> Download the latest drivers to check if it fix the issue.
>> Open the My computer >> Right click on the CD/DVD drive and select Eject, this will normally open the door.
Else, try to uninstall the drivers from Device Manager and then restart the PC once, this will reinstall the drivers once again by its own if your Windows is up to date.
Please do get back to us, if that does'nt fix.

The tray on player won't
It sounds like there is something inside the dvd player, that isn't supposed to be there, that is keeping the tray from retracting fully. Try unplugging the unit and gently turning it upside down and giving it a little shake. Not too hard. This might jar the item loose, you will hear it knocking around. If you do knock something loose turn the unit so the front is pointing up and let the foreign object fall to the back of the unit where it hopefully won't interfere with the operation of the mechanisms inside. If you don't hear something come loose, remove the screws on the bottom, sides and back of the unit to remove the top cover. Make sure you have unplugged the power before you do this. take a look and see if you can find something jammed in the track or the gears for the tray. If you do gently remove the item with your fingers or a pair of needle nose pliers. Once removed replace the cover and away you go.
If there is nothing blocking the tray and the mechanism, you probably have a gear system to close the tray. At some point someone must have pulled fairly hard on the tray causing the gear teeth to jump, check and make sure they aren't damaged or stripped. You are going to have to them either remove one of the gears (or pull it up so it can turn without turning any other gears) push the tray back into the fully closed position and replace the gear. Once you have done this you will want to test to make sure the tray will function properly. Place the top cover back on, but don't secure it with the holding screws in case you need to open it back up again, plug the unit in and test the tray. If it works unplug it and secure all the screws for the cover and away you go.
Otherwise you are going to have to play with the gears till it is back in the proper starting position. If your hearing some strange noises and its not working, then the gears are probably badly stripped. You can contact the manufacturer and see if they can sell you some spare parts or direct you to someone who can replace it. Though at this point simply replacing the unit may be less expensive.

Tray will not open when I press button
I have the exact same problem with my unit. I have been using it for months anyway. I'm too cheap to replace it. It just requires a little timing. Press the eject button, and the use your finger nail to gently LIFT the tray when it should be coming out. It will take some practice, but it WILL WORK. I can do it, but hubby cannot. It takes patience. {gravity must be making the door stick}

XBV243 DVD Player / VCR Combo: my Zen XBV243 DVD/VCR combo player won't eject the...
If it is the same problem as mine, the drive belt is old and worn and is slipping- therefor the tray will not open. I found this out after I removed the metal cover, and the screws holding the DVD assembly to reveal the motor, pulleys, and drive belt. Now the real problem is to find a replacement belt. Possibly a o-ring the proper size may work, as they are quite easy to find. The original belt has a square cross section, whereas an o-ring has a round cross section, but should work well enough.
