Question about Sony Televison & Video
This problem can also occur when Sony brings down their servers for maintenance. In my case it was NOT a NetFix problem.
This happened to me at 7:00pm Pacific time, which is a really bad time to take down a server for maintenance. I did get through to technical support with minimal delay. Support was no help, other than to confirm that the service was down. So it was not an account or BluRay player problem. Just wait 2-3 hours and the service will come back.
I was also told that the servers com down for maintenance about twice a month!
The tech support number is: 239-768-7547. I recommend calling early and often. If customer frustration is registered frequently enough, Sony may elect to deploy redundant servers so they can do maintenance with out shutting down the service for all of their customers.

You will have to try every 30 min. to connect.
Hi Folks,
You need to stop thinking that "Error 300" means wireless problem, server problem, internet problem, etc.. In all likelihood, it's just another way of saying "Hey, I can't reach the server". It could be your wifi connection, it could be your internet, it could be that Sony took their servers down. I have seen this error a few times and there were obviously different reasons for it. Once, when Sony took their servers down, everything was offline for a couple of hours (with no warning and starting at 6pm PST!!!!). I know it was a Sony problem because my other Sony 570 wasn't working either, but my Roku box was. FlixKruiser has the right idea.....call Sony. Troubleshoot and don't assume some error code is giving you a ton of information. For example, is it only netflix which is down? If so, it's probably netflix. If it's everything else, it may be your internet or the connection between the player and the internet. Can you access the internet on your computer? If so, that narrows it down to the connection between the player and the internet. Do you happen to have another similar DVD player which supports applications to test?
I think you get the picture....
Just disconnect it from the electrical source and wait at least 30 seconds.
This was the only thing that worked after trying several things, like de-activated and re-activated netflix.
good luck
Thanks for listing the help number. I just called and am on hold right now...

It means that the Sony Server is offline. Not only Netflix is affected, it is also all network application such as Youtube, Hulu and so on that is on Sony Blu-ray or other Sony player.

Youtube, hulu and others work. netflix has a doom loop that will not allow you to access the options menu if the activation code gets out of sync. No amount of restarting has solved this for me. Latest firmware installed. Erased all the erasing I can find. I think I'll throw it off my blacony.
I called Netflix and found out that their streaming servers are not working for Sony TV Bravia and others; though the Netflix streaming is working on the computer. The strange thing is that Netflix website does not have any banner announcing this outage. This could resolve all this frustration and tweaking the internet router, Sony Wireless bridge, banging the TV for last 5 hours.

I contacted SONY and they told me it ment the netflix service was not available at this time.

I think the problem is that the Netflix servers are overloaded. When I get this error message using my wireless Sony media player device, the problem is limited to Netflix. The other services that I can access through my media player work just fine. Usually, when I get this message, its just a short matter of time before I can get the show I want. All of my experiences with it suggest a Netflix capacity issue.

Experiencing this right now on Nintendo 3DS and Sony Blu-Ray Player. Tried device reset, etc... Hulu and YouTube work fine on Blu-Ray player, can access and watch Netflix via website. Frustrating.
I think your answer is right on the money!!!
Same here, this is nearly ALWAYS a unique-to-Netflix problem, and unfortunately I find that it happens quite, quite OFTEN during typical busy-server times for streaming movies like weekends, Friday evenings, etc. It has been an issue for over 3 months now, and I have heard from them (netflix) that they are working on it, aware of it, blah blah, and it has never improved. I also have zero trouble between my other devices and other services and the sony player.

I believe the Netflix website says to turn off the DVD player then turn it back on. This generally works for me but I'm getting this error message more often than I think I should so I'm going to follow up with Sony or just return the unit (bought at Costco).

This solution worked for me.
I de-activated and re-activated netflix.
On DVD Player:
1. Select Netflix (to get to the instant queue menu)
2. Press options on your remote(to bring up sidebar)
3. Select Deactivate Netflix
4. Select Yes (to deactivate)
5. Select Return (to video menu)
6. Select Netflix (to get activation code).
On Computer:
1. Go to www.netflix.com
2. Select "instantly to your TV" on Watch Instantly tab
3. Select "How to get started"
4. Select "Activate you Device"
5. Enter activation code.
Step 1 might be problematic.
In my case I had to retry severals times before I got into the Instant queue menu successfully.
Powering down and powering up the player might help.

I get this a lot now. I think Sony is limiting Netflix viewing. The truth will come out soon...

I get Netflix through Wii. Reference Code 300 shows if the Wii is turned off.

The Netflix Enabled device servers go off seldom, but when they do, this is the error. You will need to be patient and try every 30 minutes or so. Then you'll need to reactivate your netflix device. (I tried everything else possible). When I woke up the next day, it was worked again.
Who has the time to be checking on a movie every 30 minutes? I've about decided Sony is not ready for prime time after struggling with this problem off and on for 5 months.

I'm getting the same error and I just bought the Blu-ray Player today. What did you do to fix this?

I too encountered this error. I purchased a new blu-ray player yesterday to add to my collection of toys (Wii included =) I checked for network updates on my Sony Blu-ray player and applied the recommended updates. Once updated, the Sony blu-ray connected to NetFlix with no error codes. Good luck!

Well the only way I could find and this is per SONY and per NETFLIX, is to deactivate the device and reactivate the device.
