Hello I just got Halo 3 downloaded from the xbox LIVE marketplace. I am currently
using xbox LIVE silver (xbox LIVE free) and every time I used matchmaking (multiplayer) it tells me that my current profile doesnt allow for multiplayer gaming, Do I have to buy xbox LIVE gold, in order to play multiplayer, or is there something wrong with matchmaking

If u have a credit card. connect your xbox to your network and enter the marketplace. there you will find the signup for LIVE icon and go from there. no credit card. purchace a Live membership from Target, Gamestop, Toys R us etc....Connect to LIVE with your xbox and enter the unlock code located on your purchased LIVE card. hope this helps.
yes it would tell you if live had expired ! did you buy the xbox new or used ?? if used it is possible it has been banned from live access ?? if it has been banned buying a new harddrive wont get it back on ! if you bought it new & have never had a live account before then take the free month trial befor you use the 3 month u got ! just go thru the process of signing up to 'silver' membership ! what eva it asks (as it does a few times) refuse 'Gold' membership ! and select 'Silver' !! if it hasnt already had the free 1 month trial it will say at the end of signing for silver.....to try gold for a month to see what ur missing ! :-) after the month is up...use the 3 month you got !
This is often caused by a damaged/dirty disk or corrupted downloaded maps.
First, clean your game disk. Then I would suggest cleaning your consoles lens with a cd cleaner or can of compressed air.
Next I would copy your game directly to your consoles hard drive. Go into your game library and you will see the option when you navigate to halo3.
If it is a downloaded map that will not load: Delete the map from your hard drive and redownload it from marketplace. If you are using the same gamertag that you originally downloaded the map with, then this should be a free download.
You can also clear your 360's cache. Instructions for this process are below. After clearing cache, you will have to download updates for any game before playing. http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/11131/Xbox-360-Cache-Clear-Code-Revealed/
Try resetting the modem that might help. Because the problem is with your modem not sending the right packet to your xbox. and dont use a computer while doing this or try birdging the network watch my video on youtube for it. Hope it helps. And if it dosnt work then contact xbox live support.
Ok its one of three things:
1) That player doesnt have the Content. So what I recommend is having that player go the the XBOX Live Marketplace and getting everything thats free for Halo 3 there; unless you are playing a map that costs points in which case get them too.
2) You may not have enough HDD Space to save or get the content. Maybe you need a new HDD.
3) Possibly a bad connection the game if you are playing online.
On the Xbox 360, you'll have two choices of service level: Xbox Live
Silver and Xbox Live Gold. Xbox Live Silver will offer limited Xbox
Live functionality at no cost, while the Gold package will be a fully
functional pay service.
The Xbox Live Silver service means you can connect your Xbox 360
console to a broadband Internet connection and get functionality right
out of the box without having to pay any amount of money.
With Xbox Live Silver you can:
Create an online Gamer Profile
Access the Xbox Live Marketplace
Engage in voice and text messaging
Talk to a single friend at a time using voice chat
Receive video messages from Gold level members
Access massively multiplayer online games (additional fees may apply)
The Xbox Live Gold is similar to the current paid Xbox Live service.
The Xbox Live Gold service delivers the complete online connection
package. With Xbox Live Gold you have all the features of Silver level,
and additionally:
Play multiplayer games online
Video chat
Multiplayer online tournaments
Participate in Xbox Live online programming, such as Game with Fame, Play and Win, and Prime Time activities.
hey the cord you found was an eithernet cable that plugs from your xbox into your mondem at home. if your home internet is wireless you will have to buy a special wireless adapter for your 360. once its all plugged in go to connections on the 360's dashbored connect your xbox to the internet then follow the instructions to connect to xbox live you get a month free membership when you join
in order for you to get content on your xbox you have to get xbox live its free for the silver member ship which gives you acsses to the marketplace but the gold gives you everything so if you have internet connection get the silver member free then you can get content.
Hi Mate, i used to use the original xbox on live its best with 1mb broadband or above, and alot easier to use it if you buy a router ie wired or wireless whatever you can afford. its great fun. and yeah 256k would be the minimum.
and you can get more information here,
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/howdoigetxboxlive.htm
hope you have as much fun as i had with the xbox :-)
John
