Exactly the same thing happened to me (0.5mm GG 1000). I carefully unscrewed the barrel (just above the lead indicator), then unscrewed the interior cartridge (it's a sort of beige colour) just above the tip of the pen. There was a little ring that I guess expand to feed the lead. There was a tiny piece of lead stuck in this ring - I moved it out with the tip of a needle and the pencil worked again.
Basically - might be worth unscrewing before you buy a new one.
If lead is broken in the tip, you need to remove the tip and use a pin to push the lead out in the opposite direction that it normally comes out. First release the spring pressure by pressing on the clip which retracts the tip. Remove the cap, the eraser, and any spare leads that are in the barrel. Then unscrew the end piece where the tip with the lead emerges. Slide off the bottom barrel. Unscrew the metal tip that holds the lead. Push a thin sewing pin through the tip in the opposite direction to that of the way the lead normally emerges. Reassemble. Make sure that the tip is screwed all the way in otherwise the tip won't pop and stay out when you press the cap..
