Two possible solutions remove the top cover (Two screws on top after oepening the cartridge door and two push in black nylon screws in either side). and check the activation lever that activates the cover switch is not riding on top of the switch. Second if this happened your toner cartridge make sure this new cartridge is the correct one for the fax and not a HP modified recycled printer cartridge.

It says drum error but the cart and drum is replaced with new and still can't get past the drum error message.

Hi There!
What you can do to clear the Drum Error message is to clean the corona wire.
  • Open front cover of the machine and remove the drum & toner cartridge assembly.
  • Remove the toner from the drum and gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side put it on a piece of paper to avoid scattering the toner.
  • Theres a blue tab on the upper left side of the drum, slide it from left to right, right to left about 5-6 times don't forget to put the blue tab back to it's home position(where the arrow is).
  • Put the toner back into the drum make sure it will click into place.
  • Reinstall the drum and toner assembly back into the machine and close the front cover.
  • LCD should display the date & time.

If you continue to receive the message try resetting the drum counter by doing the following:
  • Open the front cover
  • Press the Options key on the control panel. The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO".
  • Press 1 to reset the drum count.
  • Close the front cover
Hope this helps!

Check cover/cart error

I believe there are at least 3 switches that senses if the cover is closed. I aquired one of these and it was throwing this error. I also had the same just happen again and had to trouble shoot as I forgot what the issue was the first time as its been about 8 months. I found my issue to be one of thise sensor switches. Open the cover as if you were going to remove the toner cartridge. Above where the cartridge is the are those 3 switches that I mentioned. you wat the one on the left see the picture its the one with the arrow on a pink piece of paper. There is like a white lever in there it should be in the up postion when cover is open. Take a pen cap that has the shirt clip the cheap bic ones or take a tooth ick and use it to make shure that lever is in th up postion. If it was not in the up postion it should pop up easy. Now try clsing cover let the unit run its test and you should be good to go.53b97c7.jpg

Brother MFC 7820N error message "back cover open" but cover is closed. machine is now not functional as error message can't be removed

If you open the back cover (depress the release button on the top right) If you lift it up look for two black anchors that grab the base when you close the lid. I have one that has a broken tab on the left side, which happens to be the same side as the cover closed switch. If the top is not closed all the way the rollers do not line up and the cover switch is not depressed to let normal operation. Also, if the switch arm is busted (case colored plastic push pin protruding from the cover) it will not make contact with the switch when closed. Try closing the cover and push down on left side of the fax. Does the error go away? If not, the actuator arm or the switch are bad.
