Get error message E5 on my canon MP160 all in one printer. One day everything was fine printed perfect next day E5 message & said that it doesn't recognize the ink cartridges. Impossible it worked...

Make sure all carts are seated properly, sometimes they pop up. When you open the cover, the one with the blinking light is the problem one. It's also possible to have a defective cart. from Canon as well.

Installed a new ink cartridge and the display mentions cover open when it is closed.

never let a machine defeat you
there's a sensor in the printer that checks ink levels. the sensor uses a beam of light to check; if the light bounces back, the machine assumes there is ink in the cart and continues to operate. If the light is not bounced back, the machine assumes that the cart is empty and starts beeping or displaying an error message. on a refill the ink is not "packed in" like it is on a new factory one. so take black electrical tape and tape it around the spine and the outline of the cartridge to make it ALL BLACK with no transparencies, which causes the light to beam back (sensor then triggers error message)

tricking the machine into thinking the cartridge is full defeats it.

Error message

Error 1203 is an issue that occurs either when a cartridge is bad or the printer cartridge Slot is bad... I would request you to try cleaning the copper contacts of the both carts and cart slot in the printer and try again..
If that doesnt work just call up their support number and check for replacement..

Note: Refilling carts may damage the contacts of the carts as well as the printer.

Error #12 Shows on my lexmark x4270 all in one how do i clear it

Hello there,

In my experience I've never come across an error #12 on a X4270. I've seen an error 1200 & error 1203 a couple of times. Did you get this error after installing a new cartridge? then there are chances that the new cartridge that you installed is defective. The best way to figure if out is to take both the cartridge out and power recycle the printer with the cartridge out. Check out if the operator panel says "cartridge missing" when it is powered back on. If it doesn't say "cartridge missing" then the printer hardware is defective. You would need to get it serviced. If the printer comes up with "cartridge missing" message, then either one of the two carts that you have is defective. I would suggest you to insert one cart first and close the cover and check if it says "cartridge missing" If it does come up with that message then insert the other cart too.. If you get Error 1203 on after inserting a cart, then that cart is defective and needs to be replaced.

Merry Christmas!

Inputting new ink cartridges

Error 1102 means cart error. Try cleaning the copper contacts on the cart and the contacts in the printer also. If still fails, then put old carts and check if u still get same error. If u dont get the error then there is a problem with the cart itself. But if you have bought a refilled cart then the print heads on the carts are bad. Needs replacement.

Check cover/cart

Two possible solutions remove the top cover (Two screws on top after oepening the cartridge door and two push in black nylon screws in either side). and check the activation lever that activates the cover switch is not riding on top of the switch. Second if this happened your toner cartridge make sure this new cartridge is the correct one for the fax and not a HP modified recycled printer cartridge.

Error message saying " check cover/cart"

ok it can be a bunch of things,

1) check the cover that you open to change the cartridge is secure, press down on the top part near the latch that releases it and see if the door switch activated, if you hear the main motor activate then your problem is the locking latch.
2) Change cartridge and /or clean the 2 metal square contacts under the drum, move the drum cover and you can see the 2nd one, use methylated sririts or equivalent and a cloth. Your cartridge may be faulty/old or has leaked toner on the contacts.
If neither of these work you will have to have a visit from a technician as a circuit board may be at fault.
