Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console Logo

52 inch Samsung LCD, I have an HDMI cable connected to the PS3. On the XMB menu and whenever i play games, there are always green horizontal lines flickering occasionally on the screen. There are also thicker, white lines that flicker closer to the bottom. What is the cause of the problem? And how do I fix it?

is it an internal problem with the GPU? Or is it the tv/cable?
My ps3's fan also speeds up for no reason. It sounds like it's running pretty fast, but it only started about two weeks ago? I don't think it's getting too hot, because my house isn't very warm. Any ideas?

I have an external fan running on mine to disipate heat. I play for hours sometimes. Use a vacume to pull out any dust buildup.

I have ps3 and am playing gran turismo 5 which is a 3d compatible game. I got it hooked up to my new 3d tv but its not allowing me to convert to 3d in the game settings. Why?

Are you sure that your PS3 is connected to your TV with a HDMI cable? Make sure that the PS3 is connected to the TV via a HDMI 1.3 cord and recheck your settings on the XMB and on the game itself.

I am trying to commect to my PS3 to an LG LCD tv which supports 1080P (Full HD). but as the game starts and when i check the TV it says 720P although the game and the TV both supports full HD. Do i need...

Hello there. There's a few possibilities. First, the obvious, do you have it set to 1080P in the Display Settings options? Secondly, are you using an HDMI cable? You need to be using HDMI to play games in full 1080P. I use the component cables (The red, green and blue ones) for my PS3 and when I'm on the XMB (that's the PS's desktop so to speak) it's displayed in 1080P but games will not play in 1080P, only 720P. Any old HDMI cable will do the trick, so don't get suckered by the price if you are going to pick up a cable!

PlayStation 3 XMB Problem

It could be either a problem determining the aspect ratio change between HDMI and your DVI cable or a problem or the settings on your television (You may have the resolution setting too low for HD, does your TV support 720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p?). If you post back with your model of TV I can help you figure out what's going on.
It's unlikely to be a hardware issue on either connector.

Hello can you help with this error!

When you switch from one cable connection to another (Hdmi to AV etc) you need to reset the PS3 to its default settings. Basically what is happening is, your PS3 is set to HDMI, so when you plug in AV cables it doesn't know it. So you have to reset it. Hook your PS3 up to whatever cables (make sure system is fully off) then hold the front power button down for a few seconds.

Doing this will reset the display settings. You can then go into the XMB (main menu) and choose your connection. Although the PS3 should do this during the start up on its own.

Hope this helps.
