I have an IBM Selectric 111 typewriter and the carriage will move when I hit the exp button or tab but will not move with the space bar. If I strike a key the carriage stays in place. I have looked for typewriter repair, however, no luck. I will appreciate any info you can send my way. Thanks, Joan

More likely is that the machine is not restoring the escapement disconnect after a correction key operation. When you press the correction button the machine does a single backspace, then sets the correction tape to operate and also disables the escapement (spacing) for a single operation to enable you to type the correct character over the erased one. If the machine becomes worn or gummy, the cancel of the disabled spacing will not function and the carrier will remain in one spot, but carrier-return and tab will work fine. This would be my pick for the fault. A typed character or space-bar operation would normally restore normal escapement (spacing).
