SOURCE: Water Tastes Bad

You do not say what type of hose or pipework in supplying water to the unit, if you have a washing machine style hose supplying the water then that is most likely the fault, replace with a copper of clear plastic type pipe, this is avaialbel from your local maytag, amana or admiral stockest you could also try fitting an in line water filter, it is not practicle or possible to replace all the water system components. SOURCE: ice maker's ice taste funny

You may consider pulling out the ice maker and tossing it in the trash if you look at it and see that where the ice sits it's corroded or its close to a 10 year old in age (IT'S DUE TO GO OUT ANYWAY).Other than that:you have a 3% chance that the tube that goes to your ice maker is bad. SOURCE: Bad water & ice cube taste

Hello redwood City
Welcome

You said,
Your Kitchenaid Superba KSRG25FKBL15 has bad tasting water and ice cubes. You replaced the copper tubing which delivers the water to the fridge and that didn't help. You replaced the copper tubing again with plastic tubing...no better. Any suggestions? Your tap water doesn't taste this bad.You bought a Kenmore french door fridge with water dispenser in the door in July 2008. The fridge has a filter. A few weeks after the fridge came the water and ice started tasting really bad, unlike any bad water taste I have ever tasted. And your tap water is fine. The bad taste appears to be random. Sometimes you get a cup full of nasty water and sometimes it tastes fine.

First you must know you have a 1 year warranty and can have them come out to fix anything, no charge. If it persists. You will have to get tough and you , MUST INSIST THEY REPLACE YOUR FRIDGE

When installing the water line these were a part of the directions!
Did you do this before connecting the water line to your fridge?
"Place the free end of the tubing in a container or sink, and
turn ON the main water supply. Flush the tubing until water is
clear. Turn OFF the shutoff valve on the water pipe. Coil the
copper tubing."

Whirlpool remedy
Off-taste, odor or gray color in the ice
1.Are the plumbing connections new, causing discolored or
off-flavored ice? Discard the first few batches of ice.
2.Have the ice cubes been stored too long? Throw old ice
away and make a new supply.
3.Does the freezer and ice storage bin need to be cleaned?
See “Cleaning” or “Ice Maker and Storage Bin.”
4.Has food in the freezer or refrigerator been wrapped
properly? Use airtight, moisture-proof packaging to help
prevent odor transfer to stored food.
5.Does the water contain minerals (such as sulfur)? A filter
may need to be installed to remove the minerals.
6. Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? Gray or
dark discoloration in ice indicates that the water filtration
system needs additional flushing. Run additional water
through the water dispenser to flush the water filtration
system more thoroughly (at least 2 to 3 gal. [8 to 12 L] or 6 to
7 minutes initially). Discard discolored ice.

Let me know what works,
Thank You ,
HUUUM!!

SOURCE: Bad water taste coming out of Refrig

Hello collado36.. I'll give you a few ideas of things to try.. First off..is there a coffee scent in the refridgerator or freezer compartment when you open the door/s? If so, try emptying the fridge and wash everything with white vinegar and dry all surfaces with a soft cloth ( dish towel is OK).. air drying is OK but you don't want the food you removed to clean it to go bad.. Do you have any food in the fridge that may have been exposed to that coffee that may be 'out-gassing' that coffee smell?

The water comes into your fridge via an electrically operated inlet valve and is dispensed into the mold tray of your ice maker as well as the drinking water spicket. ( I am not sure if your model fridge has a reservoir to chill the water prior to dispensing but it probably does...but that reservoir should not be exposed to the inner refridgerator compartment nor should it pick up any scents or tastes from there either. )
In trying to diagnose exactly where the foul water is generated.. can you detach the incoming water feed line from the fridge and drain that into a large jug? Then check that jug for the same smell? If it only happens within the fridge then the white vinegar wash should help.. .if it also happens in the jug then your incoming water may be the culpret.
Another way to clean your water supply system to the firdge would be to detach the water supply line.. buy another length of flex water line with couplings.. and fill that section with white vinegar that can be forced thru the water system and clean it from the inside out.. if you do use this approach, make sure you flush teh system clean of any leftover white vinegar .. Hope these tips help you resolve your problem.. please get back to me if after you've tried these, they don't work.. Good luck..

SOURCE: Bad tasting water and ice from refridgerator.

i agree with rpbuice but in addition to flushing the water line you may need to replace the line then using the water dispencer run out about a gallon of water thru the door. this will clear the reservoir of bad tasting water. for the i/m throw out all of your ice then let it make a couple of batches and throw out that ice as well be sure to clean your ice bucket very good to remove any lingering tastes from the old ice.
fyi bad tasting water is generally from bad water supplies. good luck..

Ice Smell/Taste funny

The answer to your question is yes. First go to home depot or lowes and tell them you want an in line water filter for a refridgerator and you want that filter to have the brass or copper threaded connections already on the filter. While your there pick up a couple of stainless steel water lines. The fittings for the filter are going to be 1/4 inch fittings, so be sure to get the right size lines. Once your back home, pull the machine away from the wall, unplug it, jsut for safety, and turn the water off. The next thing you want to do is disconnect the old water line from the wall and from the water valve on the fridge. Before you hook up the filter make sure you note the water flow direction that should be on the side tellling you which way it should pass throught the filter. Hook up the line that will go from the wall to the filter but don't connect the valve yet. Once you got it connected to the wall get a bucket and place the line that goes to the valve in it and turn the water on. This way the filter is flushed before you hook it up to speed up the process of getting that bad water out. Ok, flush a few gallons, then hook the line to the valve, plug in the machine and your done. Allow a few cycles of ice to pass before you notice the difference. Good luck

Kenmore refrigerator model# 70192001 has funny chemical tasting ice

Do you have a water filter, either inline or inside the fridge side? There is nothing in the water lines or valves within the fridge that will contribute to chemical taste. Unless it's just been connected and the line was dirty. It's either your water supply, and if so install a quality inline water filter will help. Some times if the fridge filter is clogged the water flow to the ice maker is restricted and little bubbles get trapped in the ice and they taste off. You should have crystal clear ice. If not get a filter.

Ice maker filter

No, they do not. If the ice is old it can absorb taste from the air. You can also buy an in-line filter for your unit. Hope this helps!

Bad water & ice cube taste

then change your filter. the new filter could be different with the old filter. check the new filter, see if there is odor removal and taste removal with it.

if not then get the filter with carbon filter, odor and taste removal.

then with a new filter, run about 5 gallons of water before using the water for drinking.
