You can download the driver from the HP download site here:

You need to choose your OS. And look for the Driver selection. It should show you a download button.

you can get the vista drivers from the hp support site.the xp drivers are touchy in vista some work some dont.

First thing to do is go here:

Deskjet 1280 Downloads

Select your operating system from the list of choices.

A list of available drivers & software will then be given. Under the Driver click on "Download".

When the download window opens, select Save and then save it to your Desktop for ease of installation.

Once the download is complete, power on the printer, but DO NOT CONNECT the data cable.

Run (double-click) the file on your desktop that you downloaded. Connect the cable only when prompted by the software.

make sure you installed the software properly..sometimes some software requires you connect the printer first then install software...other times you install software first then install printer....make sure the settings are set up the same on the printer and computer....make sure all connections are secure..check owners manual...
