My Royal Alpha 2001 typewriter has been unused for years. I turned it on recently and it worked fine except it would not paper advance with the return button. How do I get the paper to line advance? Thanks

Hi,

you might need to calibrate a part of the typewriter in order to fix this or there might be broken part of the typewriter.
Please verify how the paper should be advanced based on the typewriter manual. And if it's different in the manual, then you might need to call Royal directly to ask for the closest repair shop you can send the typewriter to so that the issue can be fixed.

If the motor makes any noise at all when you turn it on, the belt is probably broken.

If memory is working there is a lever with a red end just to the R. of the ribbon, pull it toward you untill it stops the ribbon cassette should lift out.

I'm going out on a limb here.
I assume the carriage returns but the line does not advance. Close?

- There is a setting for the linespacing which is either 0 (zero), or 1, or 1 1/2 or 2
Likely, this has been inadvertently moved.

- Also, there is a way of disengaging the linespace mechanism to allow typing to be made on unevenly space forms. This might have been moved.

Check if there's something between the ribbon and the platen(roller). I think there is.

It means printer error. Usually after a paper jam. Clear any paper out and try turning off and on at the wall. ***************************************************************************** *****************************************************************************

The T/W is probably just gummy. Will it tab? If so the correction mech. is probably the trouble, if not try some WD40 on the silver shaft that the s
carrier slides on.
