My Iriver H10 MP3 player will not load a repair program. It will turn on, then initialize itself, but then a notice pops up that says the system files are missing and to restore them with the Recovery Tool available at iriver.com. When the recovery tool is downloaded and activated it instructs me to turn on the H10 and connect it to the USB port, after which the recovery tool should begin its operation. However, the recovery tool takes no further action and the H10 can only be turned off by removing the battery. I can access the H10 via USB port using my computer and see nothing is listed. I placed the recovery tool program on the H10 and ran it there; same result. Iriver also has a firmware update program which I've tried running, both from the computer and on the H10. The program instructs how to connect the H10, at which time the program should initiate, but nothing happens. Running the upgrade program on the H10, as with the recovery tool, produces the same negative result. Another type of software from Rockbox.org for this device can be applied and appears to load, but afterward the H10 is unchanged and nothing is visible in the H10 files when examined via the USB port from my computer.

iRiver H10 - Missing System Files
You must be connected to the internet for this to work:
1.Download the MTP Firm Updater Utility from iriver website - iriverinc.com/support (Audio Jukebox --> H10)
2. Unzip file, run .exe file, go thorugh wizard (if you are not in mass storage mode, it will give you instructions on the wizard on how to change this)
3. Select Recovery
4. Finish going through wizard
5. disconnect iRiver from computer, and wait for it to update - your player should be good.
If the problem happens again, then uninstall Windows Media Player 11 from your computer and rollback to Windows Media Player 10 (you will NOT lose any songs by doing so).
Good luck!

go to www.iriver.com people - what the f--- do you think it means?
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
I have lately experienced the same problem with my H10 20GB. I noticed it happened after installing some other software. I think there is an conflict between iriver and apple, I mean iTunes Helper present in memory causes the trouble. I stopped the process from Task Manager and reconnected my H10. It helped. If you don't need iTune Helper you'd better disable "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe" from starting with system.
