Whenever I turn my iriver on, it says system initializing and has a little clock like thing and just freezes their, leaving it completely useless. I can only turn the iriver off by taking out the battery.
I TRY TO TURN IT ON BUT I ONLY GET THE INITIALIZING AND A CLOCK THEN IT WON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. THE ONLY WAY IT TURNS OFF IS TO REMOVE BATTERY.I TRY TO TURN IT ON BUT I ONLY GET THE INITIALIZING AND A CLOCK THEN IT WON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. THE ONLY WAY IT TURNS OFF IS TO REMOVE BATTERY.

If you leave it long enough it should initialise. I had to plug it into mains power so the battery doesn't go flat while it's trying to ido so. But then again, your battery might last longer than mine as mine was a factory repair, so there's a laundry list of issues I've had with it.
I had one of these for a while, before I finally got fed up with the crappy firmware and switched to Rockbox, an open-source firmware that is infinitely better than the default.
But if you do want the original firmware, go here: http://iriveramerica.com/support/mtpupdate/ for a step-by step guide to reinstalling the firmware. Be warned that I do believe your music will be deleted from the player, though.
I have done this. my iriver is almost full i have the 20gb, when the you do the database refresh, it just takes a really long time. mine takes about 2 hours to finish, once you see the clock on database refresh you cant do anything but wait till its finished.
i had the same problem..try formatting by right clicking ur drive and then format from my computer. You will lose all ur files though...hopefully it should atleast get ur iRiver to turn on after that!
