The earphone jack connection produces sound in only one ear. Partially with drawing the jack produces sound in both ears. Clearly, the jack is not making a good connection once inside its 'port'.

Hi,
This is usually the result of faulty earphones. Try replacing the earphones you are using with the ipod and it should work normally.
Good Luck!

I just spent $50 on a decent pair of earphones and there was no improvement. It is clearly related to the unit itself and the port which receives the jack of the earphones. The question is if anyone knows if there is a way to get this repaired.

Why can't i get my earphone to work?

Plug them into the headphone jack of your device and play some music or make a call from your device and see (or rather hear) what happens next.

Headphone/earphones only left ear plays

Either the plus is not completely inserted (most likely) or a wire is loose or the earphones are damaged.

One earbud stopped working

what happens is inside the cord where you have your ear phones connecting to your ipod, there is a thin wire that can easily brake. it happens if u for example, rap your ear phones around your ipod. if your rap the chords to tight, the wire can break. it can even brake when you move the cord too much. such as spinning it, shaking it and such.
the wire that breaks connects to one side or both sides of your earphones, which produces the sound. if you can hear only on one side, the cord is damaged and cant be fixed.

i would go and buy new ear phones
i perfer skullcandy in-ear earphones because the wire is secrurly wrapped, and doesnt brake easily such as other producers. the skullcandy ear phones are in my mind are much better then other earphones. you actually feel like your in the room or at a live show.

I have turned the tv on and in the top right hand corner there is a symbol for earphones and i cant get the normal sound back on

yoiu likely have a sound output selection in you setup menu .. or in some sets they sense the fact that ear phones are plugged in (switch in the ear phone jack) .. and that automatically shuts off the main speakers .. sometimes the ear phone jack gets damaged and the set thinks there is always an earphone plugged in .. if thats the case then the jack would have to be replaced or repaired ... or you could for the time being, run a cable from the ear phone jack to an external amplified speaker (like a computer speaker .. that would get your sound back at least until repairs can be made ..

Try a diffrent pair of earphones if that does not work the jack is shorted on the media player and needs to be serviced.

Ear plug

That is normal for most mp3 players

If you are getting sound out of only one ear, then the headphone jack is broke - unfortunately, Philips does not have any more HDD models to send you as a replacement

EarPhones

several ways.....Wirless headphones that have a small transmitter that you attached to RCA jacks coming out of audio of VCR. You can walk around or sit as far away as you need.
2nd. CONVERTER:: A RCA male plug [ again you conect to back of VCR audio plug] to audio [female] jack [you connect earphones]
