Philips CDR820 4-Disc CD Recorder Logo
Posted on Jan 01, 2011

I Have a Philips CDR820. The problem I have is that the system is "freezing up" and wont play. The troubleshooting manual says to unlug the player for a short time and plug back in. I do this over and over and over as the player keeps freezing up. I can't get cd's in the carousel to play when it freezes up. It won't change from one cd to the next. It won't even open the trays when it freezes up. Any suggestions?

What does the display read when this happens, I have experience with these, does it say disc recover? also when the laser reader gets old, it may be done, unless you can maybe find someone with replacement. Old or scratched cds won't read well, or skip also.

Why doesn't my Philips CDR820 copy a disc when I press "copy cd" then the "yes" button?

If your Philips CDR820 is not copying a disc when you press the "copy cd" button and then the "yes" button, there could be several reasons why this is happening. Here are some possible solutions you can try:
  1. Check the disc: Make sure the disc you are trying to copy is not scratched, dirty, or damaged. If it is, try using a different disc.
  2. Check the blank disc: Make sure the blank disc you are using is compatible with your Philips CDR820. Check the user manual for compatible disc formats.
  3. Clean the laser lens: If the laser lens is dirty, it may not be able to read the disc properly. Use a cleaning disc to clean the lens.
  4. Update the firmware: Check if there is an available firmware update for your Philips CDR820. If there is, download and install it to see if it fixes the issue.
  5. Reset the device: Try resetting the device by unplugging it from the power source for a few minutes, then plugging it back in and trying to copy a disc again.
If none of these solutions work, it may be a hardware issue that requires professional repair. In that case, you may need to contact Philips customer support or a qualified technician for assistance.

Anyone know of a repairer for philips cdr820. It won't read any discs recorded or new, message no discappears, thanks!

No! I do not know a repairer, but if this cd820 doesn't work right then you need to take it back. Usually in the box it has a place to send or call for repairs.

Why wont the arcsoft updater update my media converter for philips?? It only says error "abort" "retry" or "ignore" listed as my options, why wont it update?

The software is really bad it won't work for mine either. The update for it is to fix it because sometimes it freezes up and you have to press the reset button on the back. I wouldn't mind updating if were you
