if you keep Shift+Fader position pressed while turning the TMD4000 on, it will boot in Diagnostics Mode where you will find a menu to reset to factory default, and many more options,...hoping to be helpfull

Run a dvd cleaner through system, and try again. If that fails, unplug the HTS from the wall outlet for 10-15 seconds, and replug it. If that fails, it will need to be repaired.

Remove the power plug and keep aside for few hours. It must reset the processor to keep the mode from coming back. If there is a reset setting mentioned for the processor on the manual please reset accordingly.
If this wont work there is problems on the memory within which seems to trigger the mode.

the laser is weak. need to replace. you could also try opening unit and clean lens with alcohol.

If you have a screwdriver q tip and rubbing alcohol you can fix it. Take the screws out remove the cover and locate the laser. It looks like a small lens. Dip the q tip into the rubbing alcohol just get it damp not dripping. Clean the lens with the Q tip and then put it back together.

seems to be an issue with this model, i cant play any discs, the sound is only coming from the left rear speaker and the sub, the system shuts off every half hour due to overheating...needless to say the system sucks...didnt last long...im very tech savvy and still couldnt figure out why all of this was happening.
im looking at samsung now...everything else i have is samsung and love it.

the unit seems to be going into freeze throntone. this is caused by inpc problems with the di po chip if you could take out the back up capacitor im sure it would return to normal to fix it your self disconnect all speakers and input cables leve it to sit for a couple of days and re try it with no cables connected if this does not work it will have to go into the shop

best of luck

You seem pretty anxious to perform surgery. Have you done traige yet?

It could be something as simple as a malfunction on a heaphone jack connection.

DO headphones work? Try using FM as the most basic source.

How do we know the internal audio is present and sufficiently loud to drive the speakers? If you have a tape deck or a TV with audio in connections, run an RCA jack to it and see if there's something there to listen to. No signal = no speakie = something other than the power amps failing = not those caps you read about.

BTW: don't use Maximum volume while troubleshooting. If you finally do touch the one thing causing the problem you'll probably launch the speaker cones right out of their enclosures and have to start all over again with blown speakers.
