Do you mean DSL? DSL still requires an interface called a modem. You will connect your dsl to one "side" of the modem and your computer to the other (side) of the same device. Your modem may have a RJ-45 or a USB or a cable and/or a RJ-11 and possibly other ports. I'm sure there will be instructions with your new device.

How to Connect to the Internet Nintendo Support

Once your system is connected you will need to select the system settings icon (the wrench) from your DSi menu, click the right arrow 3 times and click on "system update." Then click "yes," then "next,"then "I agree," then "ok" to start the update!

Trying to connect my kids DSI to the internet. Does it have to plug into my computer?

Hi, If you have wifi in your house it maybe easier for them to connect. You will need a wireless router. If you don't you will have to run cable (cat4 or 5 cable) to your modem. Good luck.

My dsi is not connecting to the internet

Hi shamar101,

To set up your wifi on your dsi do the following:

Here's How:
  1. Turn on the Nintendo DSi
  2. Click on the wrench icon to access "System Settings."
  3. Select "Internet" on the third page of System Settings.
  4. Select "Connection Settings" and tap the "None" bar in "Connection 1."
  5. You have the option of setting up a connection manually, or searching for available connections in the area. You may also access your Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector, if you have one (the product has been discontinued). The easiest thing to do is select "Search for an Access Point."
  6. Your Nintendo DSi will list the names of any wireless access points in range. A gold, unlocked icon next to the connection's name signifies an unlocked WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) connection that can be accessed immediately. A locked gold icon signifies an encrypted WEP connection that requires a WEP key (password).
  7. If you are accessing a locked/encrypted connection, enter your WEP key. You may also click "Change Security Settings" to enter a WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) key.
  8. If your WEP key is correct, your Nintendo DSi should connect. You can test your connection to verify.
  9. You're set! Now you can surf the Internet, purchase games and add-ons in the Nintendo DSi Shop, and play games that allow wireless access and competition (with WEP connections, only).
Tips:
  1. If you need help with your router settings, visit Nintendo's router FAQ
  2. Most Nintendo DS and DSi owners can get online by searching for an access point, but some might have to resort to manual setup. Visit Nintendo's manual setup guide if you have a unique situation and need help.
  3. The Nintendo DSi can go online with a WPA connection, but actually playing DSi games online requires a WEP connection.
What You Need:
  • A Nintendo DSi
  • A broadband internet connection, such as cable, DSL or FIOS
  • A wireless router
  • A Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector (optional)

Hope this helped!

When I try to download games from the nintendo ds shop, It keeps telling me that I have to connect to the internet and I don't know how to.

Here is a link to the downloadable Nintendo DSi XL manual: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/downloads/UTL_ops_eng.pdf

On page 73 of the manual it has a good description on what the requirements are to connect the DSi to the internet. At a minimum you would need a broadband internet connection (cable modem, DSL, etc.), and a wireless router to run a wireless network. The DSi connects to the internet over a wireless (Wi-fi) network.

Once you have the equipment set up you need to join your DSi to your wireless network. Page 79 of the manual describes the most common scenario for connecting a DSi to a home wireless network.

How do you hook up the internet

Prerequisites:
  • A Nintendo DSi or Nintendo DSi XL
  • A broadband internet connection in your home, such as cable or ADSL
  • A wireless router / access point
  • You can also use a free public WiFi connection such as those found in McDonalds restaurants
Step by step instructions:
  1. Switch on your Nintendo DSi / DSi XL
  2. Click on the spanner icon to access - System Settings
  3. Select - Internet, on the 3rd page of - System Settings.
  4. Select - Connection Settings and tap the - None bar in - Connection 1
  5. You have 2 options here, you can setup a connecion manually or you can scan for available connections. The easiest option is to scan for an access point, select - Search for an Access Point
  6. The DSi / DSi XL will list the names of any access points that are in range. A yellow unlocked icon next to the connection name denotes an unlocked WEP connection. A locked yellow icon denotes an encrypted WEP connection that requires a WEP key or password to be entered
  7. If you are accessing an encrypted WEP connection, enter your WEP key now
  8. If the WEP key is correct, you should now be connected. Test your connection to verify this

Is there an actuall modem for DSI

There is no modem for the DSi directly, but if you had a Wireless Router connected to a DSL or Cable Modem you would be able to go online with your DSi (Assuming the DSL or Cable Modem is connected and activated with a real Internet Service Provider).
