It could have been a "trojan" that was imitating the "look-and-feel" of Microsoft Security Essentials software, trying to convince you to download 'ThinkPoint' -- which itself could be a computer-virus.
Can you use "System Restore" to go "back" in time to a checkpoint created a few days ago,
i.e., before your computer was infected?

If you had over 2GB of "free" disk-space, you may be able to reinstall Windows,
carefully choosing to install to a different folder -- anything OTHER than 'C:\WINDOWS' -- to regain access to your files.
