Hello,
I may be able to help you with this. Did your Mom's friend give you the CD software that comes with the printer? I found this site where you can download drivers for printers and such--> ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software3/COL1232/oj-2520-3/A1401_20_ENU_XP.exe

I downloaded and scanned the file for viruses and spyware, it's clean.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks, Raph30

When installing the HP Officejet 4315v and using the disk provided, I get to the second step and a message appears saying my operating system is not compatible. What system am I to use and how to I get it....

The HP driver software should install with out problems with Windows XP. HP has updated the driver software on their site, with that in mind follow these instructions. Unplug the printer from you're system.
Open the HP link provided to remove all driver software from you're system follow the instruction;

Once completed restart you're system. Open the next HP link and type in you're HP printer model;

This seems to be a common problem. The device seems to be trying to start or "boot" but will not function. The power button will not light up and the device does not respond to commands from computer. What...

Hi..

I suggest you to disable all HP related items, which will not startup at system boot up and might not cause any issues.

For Windows XP

Disabling HP Applications from MSCONFIG:
----------------------------------------
1. Click Start and select Run.
2. Type MSCONFIG and press Enter.
3. Click the Startup tab.
4. Clear the checkboxes for all HP related applications.
5. Click OK.
6. Restart the system.
You can restore any of the removed items by repeating the above steps and replacing the checks for the designated applications.

For Windows Vista

Turn off the Terminate and Stay Resident programs MSCONFIG in VISTA
1. Click the Start icon.
2. In the Start Search text box located above the Start icon, type msconfig and then press Enter.
3. On the User Account Control window, click Continue. The System Configuration window displays.
4. Click the General tab.
5. Select the Selective Startup check box.
6. Verify that the Load Startup Items check box is not selected.
7. Click the Services tab.
8. Select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
9. Click Disable All.
10. Click OK.
11. Click Restart to apply the changes. The computer automatically restarts.
NOTE: After the computer restarts, a System Configuration message might display. If it displays, Ignore this message.

I hope this helps you...

Thanks..

Installation Instructions
  1. Click on the link and a File Download box will appear.
