My N64 has been having the same problem lately with my Majora's Mask game losing sound, the picture going weird and eventually freezing this happens aprox 1 to 2 hours after i start playing the game. What is wrong with my console the expansion pak or the cartridge itself?

Does this happen with other games? If so, it's the console, becasue working N64 consoles are difficult to find. If not, it is the cartridge, and you might want to clean it.
Majora's Mask is the only game that i have that requires an expansion pak every other game works fine and i have cleaned out my entire console, including the cartridge (everyway you can possibly clean without opening the casing)Majora's Mask is the only game that i have that requires an expansion pak every other game works fine and i have cleaned out my entire console, including the cartridge (everyway you can possibly clean without opening the casing)

If the button works in other games then by process of elimination it sounds like the game is the problem. I would contact nintendo about the issue and possibly get a refund for the game. Thank you, Lee
Well the console might need to be cleaned out then. Dust causes video game consoles to over heat 10 times faster than there normal heating rates. Theese pictures might help you out then.
Well its the console thats making the burning smell becuase its a power supply failure warning or its over heating for this to happen. I had my N64 console for 14 years and never heard of this before. I has to be the console or the ac adapter then.
put in one of the good games and go to keycodes and selct zelda. Turn off the n64 and put the game you want to use in the gameshark then turn it on and it should work
Well i had a similar problem with my N64 console thats 14 years old so I tried a new expansion pack in it and it worked again. It could just be that then.
I Had An N64 Myself They Are Just An Old Machine Sounds Like Your Graphics Card May Be Shot Or Not Connected Properly, I Recommend You Have It Serviced, When You Take It In Explain The Problem At Hand What It's Doing, How Long Its Been Happening, What You've Tried To Fix It Ect. They May Be Able To Help But Like I Said It's An Old Machine And They May Not Be Able To Help. Hope This Is Of Some Help To You.
The Nintendo 64 is notorious for overheating problems. This is a very common problem. With my N64, I play it while a fan is blowing on it. This usually prevents the problem. Try this method. It should work.
Hope this helps!!
