N64 freezes while playing

While playing my n64, the game will freeze and then I have to restart it to play it again, but soon the same thing will happen again. I'm not messing with the game cartridge or anything, so it isnt that. Before it freezes, there is a light fuzz sound. I sorta have a feeling it may be overheating, because I notice the console is rather warm/hot after freezing.
The console is in a well ventilated space.
It was working perfectly just yesterday for hours of gameplay then for just some reason today it has started to freeze! ;((.
Help!

    Hello again,
Well I decided to test another game to see if it would also freeze. It did.
Then today I decided to make absolutely sure. I put a different game in and this time it did not freeze. It was on for hours and hours. weird?
Then I put in the first game again and it froze after about an hour.
So maybe it is the game after all?
I thoroughly cleaned the connectors on the game cartridge with slightly wetted cue tip. It still froze after the same amount of time.
Im am still very confused about what is causing the freezing. Is it the game or the n64 console?
I havent tried the fan thing yet unfortunately don't have a fan anywhere.

The Nintendo 64 is notorious for overheating problems.  This is a very common problem.  With my N64, I play it while a fan is blowing on it.  This usually prevents the problem.  Try this method.  It should work.
Hope this helps!!

How do you erase memory from the memory pak

  • Plug an N64 controller into the "Player 1" port on the Nintendo 64.
  • 2 Place the N64 Controller Pack into the memory card slot on the Nintendo 64 controller.
  • 3 Insert a Nintendo 64 game into the cartridge slot on the N64.
  • 4 Hold down "Start" on the N64 controller.
  • 5 Turn the Nintendo 64 on via the "Power" switch on the device. After the console loads, the Controller Pack menu will appear on the screen.
  • 6 Release the "Start" button on the N64 controller.
  • 7 Browse through the saves listed, using the N64 controller's directional pad.
  • 8 Highlight the game you want to erase.
  • 9 Select the "Delete" option. The pages that were occupied by the game save will be erased from the Controller Pack.
  • 10 Repeat Steps 7 though 9 until you're finished erasing pages on the Controller Pak. Restart the N64 if you wish to play the game that was inserted into the device, or turn the Nintendo 64 off if you are done using the console.

My black one works fine with the expanson pack so its not the expansonpack then.

Does this happen with other games? If so, it's the console, becasue working N64 consoles are difficult to find. If not, it is the cartridge, and you might want to clean it.

I played pokemon stadium 2 in n64 emulator but

Try to download a different Pokemon Stadium 2 ROM to be sure the ROM isn't corrupted. Also try a different N64 emulator and see if it plays better in another N64 emulator. Either way you'll know either the ROM is good or if the emulator is faulty.

    Kirby 64 won't hold a save file

The battery inside the game pak has died, thus, it can no longer hold a save.
Buy a special screwdriver for n64 Game Paks. Unscrew the casing, then find the battery inside the Pak. Take it (the battery) to any store that sells watches, then ask for a replacement for that battery. Plug the batery (+ side facing you) in the Pak, then screw it back together.

Your game should now save. :)

    Something inside n64 game cartridge

There could be many things making that noise, my fellow N64 Gamer :)
It could be a few loose pieces of plastic that have broken off over the years, or it could be the chipset itself, which would be the reason why it's not working. By a special screwdriver off the internet (not more that 10 bucks) and open the cart to see what's making the noise.

As for the freezing up, if the chipset's moving around in there, it cold be freezing, if the chipset isn't moving, you could try cleaning the contacts on the bottom with a solution of alcohol and water.

    N64 Blinking on and off

It seems like an issue with the cartridge slot (as in there's a bad connection somewhere, causing the connection with the cart to be lost, then restored, then lost... etc). Try giving it a good blast with a can of compressed air or possibly go over it with a Q-tip soaked in glass cleaner or 50% isopropyl alcohol.

It may also be an issue with the power cable. I have a similar problem with my Genesis resetting and turning off. It turned out to be caused by a faulty, loose, power cable. Try finding another power cable for your N64 and see if it makes adifference.
