I have a Kenmore 80 series washer model 23801 and I have to manually move the dial to get the washer to spin and rinse the final cycle. It stops where the asteric is on the dial on all cycles and will not spin all the water out. What could be the problem?

please rotate your cycle dial in the opposite direction of its usual motion by 90 degrees (probably counter clockwise). Then you can run the cycle again and the drain/spin/rinse should work. Otherwise, please power cycle your washing machine.
Probably the worst washing machine manual I have ever read!
Try this.
Put your wollens in the machine, set for cold water, Woollens Cycle and your 'Soak' detergent. It will agitate a bit, and as soon as it stops filling, turn it off.
After say 20 minutes. Then Move the dial to Spin, and pull the knob out. It _should_ pump out and spin.
So it will spin and drain when put in the spin cycle right? More than likely it is your timer if you have to keep manually setting. I would check on timer prices and go from there.
Your air pressure tube going to the water level switch is pinched or stopped up,OR, the water level switch is going bad. Use this manual to access these parts and diagnose which is bad.
Are you on well water? turn off the cold water to the washer and clean the screen filter out. do not leave filter out. the machine probably has a cold only final rinse so it won't work properly.
seems the timer knob is old and need of replacement normally happens due to age as the timer switches inside the timer knob become old and sticky mostly unable to move so the timer isnt able to do much of its job
