Canon MV550i Mini DV Digital Camcorder Logo

I´m using PowerDirector 7 to edit footage from my Canon MV550i, but sound and vision are wobbly and out of sync. I´ve set the capture specifications in POwerDirector for PAL and JPEG1 (on the basis that JPEG2 was probably an undeveloped format when I bought my camera around 2002). My camera is connected to my tower by a Firewire cable. PowerDirector recognises the footage and the Canon is initialised, but after that things are starting to go downhill. What should I do?

SOURCE: Problem capturing footage from Canon MV700 DV camcorder to Windows XP

Hi

There is no reason why it shouldn't work. When you attach the camera via firewire the operating system will recognise and show an icon in the bottom right corner. Then whichever application you use to capture the video, when you select the option to capture video via DV it should bring up a little preview window with buttons for rewind, play, forward, pause, stop etc. using these onscreen buttons you can control the camera to set to the correct scene prior to capture. Also you might want to try not playing back a tape for capture but video directly through the viewfinder.

And yes its not that easy to edit DV video after capture. Though the quality is brilliant.

SOURCE: Firewire worked once but not anymore...Canon XHA1

Solution? Maybe, but PC's vary greatly. Pass it on if it works for you. If Win-XP. Device manager. Un-install IEE1394. Close & Restart. Let the system restore the 1394 then try to reconnect the unit, cable to the PC first, then to the powered down camera. Power up the cam. What are you using to ingest? I recommed http://scenalyzer.com.

How can I transfer my 8mm tape to my computer? I need to have the film on a flash drive or dvd.

Assuming that you want to do your video work later (editing,DVD burning)in your PC.

1.Your PC must have video capture device(either built-in or add-on).
2.Properly set your video editing software to able to capture video form your device.
3.Connect your camera to your PC in regular manner, like when you connect it to your TV.
4.Have your camera in PLAYBACK mode.wind the tape to the beginning of the footage you want to capture.
5.Open your editing software.turn on capture mode.
6.Start capture. At the same time, start playing back the footage on the cam.
7.When all footage were captured, click stop capture.
8.Start your editing work.
9.when complete, save it to some uncompressed video format like *.avi for later burning to DVD or converting to other format.

For beginners,I recommend Windows Movie Maker video editing software that should come bundled in almost every computer. It's fast, simple but effective enough for home-movie work.Once your project is completed, save your movie in original .avi format for later burning to DVD,etc.

BTW forget the old-school Linear Editing (on the tape) thing. It's slow, complicate and much less flexible than Non-Linear method.

Canoscan Lide 30 compatibility with Windows 7.

There are no official drivers for CanoScan Lide 30 for Windows XP, so your problem is obvious. I suggest you sending an e-mail at Canon including details about your scanner (date purchased, serial number in text form or scanned) asking them to develop driver set as this model is very trade and at shops since 2006 or 2007.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post.

The following has only just started happening - Still images are captured in a very grainy and washed way. Where as captured video footage is fine. Please help.

The Canon A95 has been known for taking noisy and grainy photos. Try using a low ISO setting of 50 or 100 to see if that helps. Using auto ISO or ISO above 100 will put more noise/grain in your photos. Also, always shoot in the best lighting situation possible. The more light the better. You can always improve your photos with good editing software too.
I hope this helps and good luck!

When I capture HDV footage from my XH A1 to Final Cut Pro 5, the footage is out of sync. The video is playing like in 110%, or something like that. The original footage is in 24f mode. It doesnt happen in...

Make sure the properties for the project you start after the ingest match the frame rate you used to record. Reads like 29.97 speed setting looking at images recorded at 24f.

Putting video footage on my computer

To get your footage into the computer from DV tape you need a four pin firewire (IEEE1493 or iLink) cable from the camera to a six pin cable into the computer. USB will not do a proper job, it's for downloding photos or as you already mentioned, Web caming.
