Not knowing the operating system, In windows 7 and 8 sometimes it forgets the cd format. Then you need to go to the device manager and remove the drive and let windows re-detect it.
click start control panel administrive tools scroll to cd/dvd drives connect this dvd rw then see if your drive there if not check the leads that attach from the dvd drive to the computer make sure they have secure connections and are seated properly or you might have to activate add new device wizard click start control panel you will see add a new device this may vary depending on your operating system
hope this helps
since you have been inside your computer and moving leads about some of these may be old and deteriotaed then any movement might
(crack break the circuit even if its slight)
One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive)) make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps
1
Open your disk drive. Ensure that your disk drive is empty before proceeding, some CDs, especially CD-RWs, will be erased if you skip this step.
Step 2
Place CD-RW into CR-R drive. The disk drive may automatically detect this is an empty or "clean" disk. If so, skip to step 4.
Step 3
Find the disk. Click on "Start," then "My Computer," then on "Devices with Removable Storage," and then right-click on the CD-RW icon.
Step 4
Format the disk. Select "Format Disk" from either the drop down menu on Step 3 or from the Dialog Box in Step 2. This process should take only a few minutes to complete. If your CD-RW has information on it already, you may select "Erase CD-RW" instead of "Format Disk."
Some CD/DVD-writing software allows multiple "sessions" (write a bunch of files, do not "close" the disk, much later write a bunch of files), so that you can "add" files to an "open" ("non-closed") CD/DVD disk.
