Playstation is on but screen is black

I have been adjusting my settings on the console and must have done something incorrectly. My screen is now black. It sounds like the menu is there and I can scroll through the options, but I can not see it. Please help.

  1. Make sure the HDMI cable is connected to the HDMI OUT port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI Input port of the TV or display monitor.
  2. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive power button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light --> green light --> then back to red light). This will ensure that you have held down the power button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  3. Turn on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).

On my television screen when plugged in with a hdmi cable it says on the screen out of range what should i do? thank you

Most likely the video setting are incorrect for your TV

Turn off the power to your PS3 and then turn it back on again. But when you turn it on, hold down the power button until you see something on the screen.

(When you hold down the power button of the PS3 when you are turning it on, it completely resets the video settings to the most basic settings (480p I think) so that it'll work on any TV or monitor.)

Playstation 3 won't boot

Try holding the power button on the PS3 for 5 seconds when turning it on. This will reset the default video mode. (The system might be set to component since you are using HDMI!)

PS3 will play on AV but will not in HDMI

  1. Connect via AV and turn on the system.
  2. Go to Setting and then Display setting
  3. Select the connector type on your TV.
  4. After you selected connector your TV screen may go staid black. Try to hook your HD cable while the system is still on. (This step should be done in 30 sec. If not, will go back to previous screen)
  5. Your TV Screen should be on via HD cable
