Did you install the windows defender ....

if so run the scan once you may have got attacked with the spy ...

and that day as i told you, you will face this kind of some hanging problems because before your system was attacked by that funny scandal, etc viruses
by that one system file has got attacked by the name smss.exe
this is the system file ...
this is needed for some operations ..
though you have already removed the viruses but you are face the effects of those viruses ...
XP is very much delicate operating system for virus ...
once if it s get s attacked it will become slow if we remove the virus also it will not return to the normal speed ..
so this can only be solved by reinstalling the XP ...
once you have done with the reinstalling process you will never face this kind of hanging problem ...

and about the internet connection as your s is satellite connection the sending and receiving of the data packets will take some time .. so by this it will some what slow ..
and some times when transfer some packets it might get lost in the middle of the transmission so some times you will face connection problem ...
when you face this problem just have a check by pinging ur DNS address in the command prompt ...
by this you will get the clear picture that satellite is receiving the data packets are not ...

These are the steps that you need to take, and the instructions on how to do it:
1. Reboot into Safemode
2. Run a virus and spyware scanner
3. Defrag
4. Scandisk
5. Registry error repairing
6.Reboot into regular mode windows

Here is how to do it:
Reboot yor machine while holding the F8 key right as it boots back up. A menu will apear. Choose -->"start windows in safe mode with networking".
Windows will start in safe mode. Run an AVG virus scan, then run Defrag by exploring your computer, right click on C: drive, click PROPERTIES, then the TOOLS tab, click the "check now" button, and only checkmark the top box 'fix file system errors', then click ok, the computer will then tell you it will scan upon next reboot., Now click the DEFRAG NOW button. the choose defrag. After Defrag runs for about an hour and it is finished, restart the system. If is still won't run normally, go back into Safemode buy pressing F8 on reboot, then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot again. If it still won't run right, you may want to reinstall Windows and see if that works. If reinstalling windows doesn't fix it, it is usually a hardware problem.

The fan runs constantly and gets really hot.

You may be running too many programs in the background which can heat up a processor pretty well. You may also have a virus which overtaxes a processor. Also, always make sure that the heat vent in the back of the pc is well vented and not obstructed, and NEVER have the pc placed on something like a bed, blanket, or pillow
