New Yamaha AV Receiver and Tannoy Speakers muffled weak bass only

I have a Yamaha AV receiver. It was bought with a set of Tannoy surround speakers from new. It was working fine last night and this morning the only sound that comes from it is a muffled bass note when you turn the volume up. It is an entry level receiver but it has only been a few months... I have a TV on an RCA and an Xbox on optical both on DTV/CBL and normally turn off the TV and it switches automatically. Can anyone suggest anything? My TV's original on board speakers are blown, so it's really distored without the receiver, need I stress the irritation? Please advise, any suggestions will be appreciated.

Maybe some wire is faulty... Try to disconnect everything and connect each speaker one by one, first trying only radio tuner and then trying to connect the TV and other devices. Using that you can isolate the fault into the specific component/wire.

I have a yamaha RX-V461B AV receiver. I cannot get the the right front speaker channel to work. All the surround and center speakers work. Even when I run the speaker test, no static comes out from that...

There is no setting that would choose one front speaker to work differently than the other. The amp or something in the audio path within the receiver is failing.

I have a Yamaha HTR6090 receiver and tannoy speakers. I cannot get the sound to come out of the speakers. Tried all speaker connections.

Is this new equipment or a new problem?

Have you followed the instructions in the manual on setting up the speakers, sources, etc?

Is it source-specific? How about some clues.?Something must work.

What does it mean when it says small or large speaker setting for main center and surround speakers

If you select small, the receiver will send more bass to the subwoofer. Most people prefer more bass.

Hope this helps

Not enough bass going to speakers

Are you using it in full surround? Check all of your connections on the speakers, check the inputs and check your eq settings.

Trying to hook up 2 Hi Fi speakers to a reciever

Red left to Red left speaker
Black left to Black left speaker

then repeat for right speaker

turn on amp play somthing quite to start, check all is working. To check speakers are in phase play a bit louder and stand exactly in middle, bass should be defined and central, it helps to close eyes and listen. If not central and defined change over Red and Black on one side only then listen again with the same test.

Start flat with eq section adjust as you like when listening to something you know and like.

After all is working ok then make it louder.

Sorted!

Muffled sound from rear speakers why watching TV

switch the HDMI cables around to make sure its not one of them, if the problem is one of them it will move with the cable,if no change i would suspect the coaxial cable next.

I have a RX-V461 AV Receiver for my Samsung HDTV.

Hi,
I don't have manual here, but try to go to Setup menu / Speaker setup / Manual Setup / Config and check if rear speakers are NOT set to None.

Surround sound from Sky +

To upmix 2-channel sound (such as that in a TV broadcast) into 5.1 sound, press AMP and then SUR. DECODE until "PL II Movie" is displayed. This will give you "cinema-like" surround sound from a 2-channel source.

You can also assign this to one of your "Scenes" by following the procedure for scene assignment on page 26 of your manual.

Surround sound from Sky +

Could be two things:

First you have to make sure the speakers are all active, there is a speaker button on the RXV361 front on the right I think but not on the remote, you need B setting for all speakers. You run the sound test from the set up menu.

or it could be that Sky is not showing the programme you are watching in 5.1 so you won't hear it from all speakers, you can force this by using the Music enhancer button of the RXV361 remote.

Hope that helps?
