Buzzing/vibration noise from ONYKO TX-SR506 unit

If the unit is under warranty, DO NOT open it up. Bring it in for an exchange or warranty service. Explain that the unit makes noise during use and it will be serviced. This could be as simple as a bad connection in the power supply area and you are hearing oscillations or it could be a defective power transformer. Either case will be covered under warranty so there should be no charge to you.

Keep us posted.

My Onkyo TX-SR506 plays cable and CD inputs to zone 2, but DVD won't play. Everything is connected according to the manual and I assigned zone 2 output correctly. What gives?

How are your cable and cd inputs hooked up? Analog connections? Alot of receivers cannot send an audio signal from hdmi inputs to zone 2.

HDMI connection with Panasonic DMP-BD35K Blu-Ray Disc Player

Try hooking the Panasonic up straight to the tv without going through the receiver. If it displays a picture its obviously not the blu-ray player. May also be a problem with the HDMI cable itself. Hope this helps.

Hi, I have a 3 year old Onkyo TX-SR506 receiver

I don't think its a harmless coincidence that it happened while you were touching it.

Assuming 'damp' means 'no dripping' I'd discount mositure as the cause. Was there something else you may have touched or caused to move during your actions, like speaker wires? Retrace your steps (with power off) and imagine what may have moved.

Disconnect the speaker wires at the receiver and see if that helps. If so, you just need to start adding speakers until it fails again or not, then isolate the cause if it is related to specific channel(s). If it doesn't come up 'naked' something cooked inside and a hands-on tech needs to get involved.

In the future - turn it off when manilpulating anything on, near or attached to it.

Hi, I have a 3

It is possible that while you cleaned the top with a damp cloth , some drops of water could have fallen on the board and shorted. If so it is possible that the amplifier had encountered a fault with a higher current drain which had triggered it to a protection fault condition. The fault can be your output drivers- the MOSFETS/IC's fitted for both the channels, Use a meter after disconnecting to check for short in the drivers. Disconnect the positive and negative voltages to the output and see if the protect changes. Even a fault in the preamp stages that drives in high current into the output can shut the Amplifier. Sometimes this can be a noise like a HUM or HISS before the protect works. Faulty capacitors in these circuits also can cause similar issues and needs close observation.
You need to confirm and replace the specific stages or outputs. If not there can be issues in the mother board, maybe the protect circuit by itself is shutting off due to a faulty bias , maybe a leak in any voltage/current sensing circuit. Also disconnect the speakers and test, if the protect is off then check for short on the speakers.

It HAS amplifiers. You don't daisy-chain amps.

Get the manual and take some of the gueswork out of the process. Set it up and come back with specific questions.
