Servers need the Drivers for the Drive array card. The server should have come with a smartStart CD that has the drivers for it. You are NOT going to get another OS on this machine unless you load the drivers for the adapter. ... and why put XP on a Server? that's not the optimal OS for the hardware.
You may need to reapply thermal grease to the cpu/heatsink combo. Over time, the grease will disapate and needs to be reapplied. Also, if your memory cards are very hot, you can add heatsinks to those to assist with cooling. And lastly, you may check to make sure that your power supply is the correct wattage for your system. A low 350W power supply trying to push a 780W system will create a strain on all component parts.

Unfortunately hp does not have drivers for ML370 G3 on windows 2008 this OS cannot be installed in this server, i attached the os matrix so that you can confirm.
