ECM (Error Correction Mode) is a feature common in most fax machines today. It helps to minimize errors while transmitting faxes over noisy phone lines.
1) Be sure you have the latest version of the drivers installed
2) Turn the fax off, then unplug for 10 minutes, turn on and try again. This should clear up anything in the printer/fax memory
3) Check if your phone line is unsually noisy when you tried to send the fax(es) that gave you the error message. If this is the case, a sucessful fax transmission will be almost impossible. You may have a faulty phone line or an improper installation. Either of these two should be fixed by your phone company. Also, most phoen companies can test your phone line (for fre) remotely to check for abnormally high noise levels.
Please, report back if you need further assistance.

Hi,
Modem speed & ECM (error correcting mode)
The average thermal fax machine in use today is equipped with a 9.6-kbps (kilobytes per second) modem and transmits one page in standard resolution in about 15 seconds after a connection is made with the remote unit.
Higher kbps ratings such as 14.4-kbps or 33.4-kkbps translate into shorter the transmission times and reduced long distance telephone bills. When practical, delayed transmission (send later) combined with a high speed modem can substantially reduce monthly telephone bills.
A fax machine with memory that scans documents into memory before transmission usually has even shorter transmission time ratings (about 6 seconds per page).
A fax transmission from a 14.4-kbps machine to a 9.6-kbps machine will take place at 9.6-kbps. Most of the fax machines currently in use around the world have 9.6-kbps modems. Several facsimile equipment manufacturers recently introduced fax machines with 33.4-kbps modems. You can be sure the rest of the industry will follow, particularly with regard to commercial grade equipment.
When you send a fax in fine resolution instead of standard resolution, transmission time will increase because the document will be scanned slower and more data is transmitted. Standard resolution is suitable for most transmissions. Fine or super fine resolution is best suited to documents that are complex or details (such as a schematic diagram or drawing).
Most fax machines have a feature called ECM (error correction mode). ECM enables the machines to continue transmission or reception despite minor (and usually intermittent) problems with the quality of the telephone line connection. When the quality of the telephone line connection poor, transmission time will increase as the two machines repeat data signals in an attempt to complete the transmission. Activity reports generated by many fax machines indicate whether the transmission or reception took place in an ECM mode or G3 mode.
Good luck!
And Thanks.
Hello.
ECM means Error Correction Mode. Errors resulting from interference in the phone lines are automatically
detected, and your FAX is re-sent. It is an informational message, only.
Hope this helps.
