Immediately after the Tv is switched on the LED pulses red and a squeaking/ticking noise is heard. After a few secs the ticking becomes slightly more rapid and the LED appears to remain constantly red.
Your tv is going into standby mode this is usually due to some faulty resistors and capacitors... You will need a service manual and schematic diagram if you want to try solving this yourself you wil need the service manual and schematic diagram which can be found here

You have a very unhappy tv...sounds like you have a relay clicking, or worse, something about to fail. the led pulsing is a warning signal, and going pure red means that you have a major failure inside the box.
you doing the service yourself, or open to a service pro coming in for this?
well..there are only two issues here.
the power supply board is the main suspect here. They do fail. not hard to replace, once the part is in hand, and the back is off. High voltage issues of course.
OTOH, it's also possible, but not as likely, that your control board(video drive) could be shot.
But, with a good service manual, and a ready source of parts, you could probably nail this one.
what's your next step?
sounds compelling. when you return from Miller time, or whatever whets your whistle, remember to accord some brew money to the expert you think did you well on advice.
this is NOT an area where you want to be experimenting with HIGH voltage. The nature of fixya is NOT to provide troubleshooting that MAY expose you to dangerous conditions. IF you are NOT experienced in working with HIGH Voltage, then I'd recommend HIGHLY that you have a qualified service professional handle that part.

I am a qualified electronics engineer but my knowledge of TVs is limited, however I hope that with some assistance I will be able to solve this. Do you have any further suggestions for this particular model?
I've downloaded the service manual for this TV and will continue tomorrow as it's friday night and I need a beer! Thanks for now.
I've removed the back of the TV and shorted the HV CRT clip to the CRT ground using a screwdriver, however, there was no loud discharge bang! I had the TV powered shortly before doing this so it should have been charged up well. Anyway can I do a check with the multimeter to ensure the HT is not present? Does anyone have any ideas how I should proceed with the fault-finding? I have downloaded the schematic already.
