There's a blown capacitor in your machine (when you open it up, the capacitors are the little things that look like pop cans). If you are good with a soldering iron (or know somebody who is), they should be able to replace the blown capacitor with a minimum of fuss. I believe the board location is C226.

I have a RCA DVD/VCR combo DRC8335. I tried to put a VHS in it and it won't take it. It is like it is not even reading it. THe VCR power is on but nothing is happening! Now the VCR door is stuck open! ...

The loading basket is defective, or the loading gears are out of alignment. Check for broken gears, belts, and a twisted basket after removing the top cover. If speed is an issue you may need to take it to a technician to see if it can be salvaged.

Tape stuck in curtis DRC8335. Can I get that out on my own?

Take the vcr cover off. Find the loading motor. Try turning the attached gear. this should make it eject the tape. I had to do this on my Sony, but the gear was jammed. I had to take out the basket and then get the tape out.

RCA dvd/vhs DRC8335 stuck on HELLO

December 27, 2008 received by email from Ann M.
Just like John H, my problem was also capacitor C226, but in my case overheating wasn't the give-away here. Instead, I noticed the bottom of the capacitor appeared melted a little and the top looked like it was slightly bulged. I removed the damaged capacitor and replaced it with a new one rated at 35 volts and now my DRC8335 is working perfectly again!

It worked it cost me 4 hours on hold with the Republic of the Philippines. Being told the new Unit sent had a 90 day warranty. It did they were right after 90 days it stopped working. The part was a Radio Shack 272-1030.

Stuck in hello mode.

Take top off.....look for a buldged capacitor on the circuit board that the power cord comes into first. That was my exact problem, and that was my exact solution. Just un-solder the blown capacitor, go to radio shack and buy a new one for $1.
